The Spirit of Might

As Christians we encounter weaknesses, temptations, doubts, fears, confusion, and struggles in many areas. The fight is ongoing, the battle is continuous and the spiritual warfare will not be over until we leave the earth only the join the forces in heaven. As long as the devil is roaming free we will have a fight, a temptation and a struggle to deal with. The good news is we are not alone. We have a secret weapon inside of us itís called THE SPIRIT OF MIGHT (Isaiah 11:2 NKJV).

Hi, Iím glad to be back to continue to share Godís Word with you guys and gals in Christ. We are going to go into the topic of the Holy Spiritís ability to fortify us with the MIGHT we need to accomplish Godís will on the earth. Isaiah mentioned the 7 Dimensions of the Holy Spirit that Jesus had on earthóthat is also in us.

Might Defined

The word MIGHT Ė means POWER, FORCE and STRENGTH in the Greek.

In Davidís final prayer of thanksgiving he mentioned Godís POWER and MIGHT; David said, both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all. In Your hand is POWER and MIGHT; In Your hand it is to make great and to give STRENGTH to all (1 Chronicles 29:12 NKJV).

David knew the different titles and names of the Holy Spirit and the practical application and experience he encountered with the Holy Spirit throughout his life. He realized that itís Godís Handóa title of the Holy Spirit; that provided him with RICHES, HONOR, POWER, MIGHT and STRENGTH to enable him to accomplish Godís will on the earth as the second king of Israel.

Itís important to read the verse carefully because we will miss the confirmation that this prayer has in building our faith to believe that we can experience this blessing. Notice the last phraseóIN YOUR HAND IT IS TO MAKE GREAT AND TO GIVE STRENGTH TO ALL!!! Not just to David or Solomonóbut to ALL!!!

Please read this prayer entirely in (1 Chronicles 29:10-19 NKJV). In case you may say ah thatís the Old Testament Iím a New Testament believer. Okay, let me give you the prayer in the New Testament by the Apostle Paul. You see, I didnít go to Bible College the Holy Spirit taught me. So allow me to share what the Holy Spirit taught Paul and many believers who were sensitive to gain the revelation of this Biblical truthóthat THE SPIRIT OF MIGHT (THE HOLY SPIRIT) is available to us today to grant us RICHES, HONOR, POWER, MIGHT and STRENGTH.

Paulís Prayer

14. For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15. From whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16. That He would grant you, according to the RICHES of His glory, to be STRENGTHENED with MIGHT through His SPIRIT (THE HOLY SPIRIT) in the inner man (Ephesians 3:14-16 NKJV).

Notice Paulís prayer for the Christians at the city of Ephesus. Paul wanted God to grant them according to Godís RICHES that they be STRENGTHENED with MIGHT by the POWER of the Holy Spirit.

The other thing we need to look closer at is where did Paul ask God to STRENGTHEN us with MIGHT? Paul said in the inner man (Thatís our human Born-again spirit).

So the Holy Spirit will STRENGTHEN our human Born-again spirit with MIGHTófor what?

The reason for the Holy Spirit to STRENGTHEN us with MIGHT is for;

1. That Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith; (V.17a)
2. That you, being rooted and grounded in love, (V.17b)
3. May be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height---(V.18)
4. To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; (V.19a)
5. That you may be filled with all the fullness of God (V.19b) (Ephesians 3:17-19 NKJV)

I broke these verses down to high light the prayer in detail. However, there are 3 reasons for Paul asking God to STRENGTHEN the church at Ephesus with MIGHT;

1. So Jesus may dwell in their hearts by faith;
2. That they be grounded in love and practically apply that love thru thick and thin with all the saints;
3. And that they may be filled with the fullness of God.

I mentioned before that we can always take these prayers and use them AS IS--to pray as an intercessory prayer for our churches or for other believers in other cities we just need to name the church or the city we are praying for. Or we can personify all of Paulís prayers for ourselves so we may experience the benefit of these prayers to grow spiritually and live out what we are requesting in our personal prayers.

To personify this prayer you would say; Heavenly Father in Jesusí mighty name I ask that you STRENGTHEN my human Born-again spirit with MIGHT to continue to walk by faith in Christ Jesus, increasing in the LOVE that is shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Spirit to LOVE the saints in Christ no matter what differences and issues that may have arise so I may be grounded in your LOVE to experience the fullness of Your Glory, amen. I used another scripture found in (Romans 5:5 KJV) that falls in line with the operation of the Holy Spirit pouring out Godís Love in our hearts to do Godís will.

Godís Might vs. Our Might

In case you may be a Bible scholar or student who is trying to make sense of this and you are using the Hebrew and GreekóI ask that you be mindful that the word Might is used to describe our power and ability--as well as--Godís Power and Ability.

In concordances, they donít really make that distinction. They only divide MIGHT, MIGHTY and MIGHTIER. But for MIGHT- we are told in Scripture to love the Lord our God with all our might (Human ability) (Deuteronomy 6:5 NKJV). Then in Ephesians 3:16; the word MIGHT is the Holy Spiritís POWER and STRENGTH thatís being released in us to walk by faith, in love and experience the fullness of God.

So we must be careful of how to make the appropriate applications. For example, when Jesus put to silence the Sadducees with their twisted Theology of the Resurrection; The Pharisees thought theyíll have a crack at it to test Jesusí knowledge of Scripture. This is when Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 6:5;

But itís important to notice that in the Old Testament it says;
1. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
2. With all your soul,
3. And with all your might (Human ability) (Deut.6:5 NKJV)

In the New Testament it says;
1. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
2. With all your soul,
3. And with all your mind (Human ability) (Matthew 22:37 NKJV)

Itís not to confuse us but to show us how to make the practical application. We must be able to serve God with our human might and Pray when we run out of human strength to be STRENGTHEN with the Holy Spiritís MIGHT to do the will of God. Challenges will come, temptation will come, desires will come, and we will get weak, and we may even fall but if we grab a hold of this truth and pray God will STRENGTHEN us in the inner man. amen
