The Priceless Value of a Mother
When we think of things that are of incredible value, the items that usually come to mind are things such as diamonds, rubies and gold. But there is something, no, someone, more precious than all of these things combined. This beautiful and invaluable person is a Mother, a woman of never-ending patience, unconditional love, tender nurturing, and an understanding that is a gift from God Himself. I want to dedicate this article to my Mother and to all of the Mothers who tirelessly and selflessly give of themselves day in and day out caring for the needs of their children.
I don’t know about you, but as someone who was lovingly raised by a young ,single Mother, it truly boggles my mind when I think of how one person could accomplish so much in a day. A Mother always seems to be able to put herself and her needs and desires second to those of her children. From the time she rises in the morning to the time she puts her head down on her soft pillow at night, she has given of herself completely to the needs and wants of her precious children. I can think of no higher calling than that of a Mother. Her job is non-stop and ever-changing. It is the most challenging, the most difficult, and the most unappreciated job on the planet, yet she perserveres, never ceasing to amaze those around her. From changing diapers, preparing meals, doing laundry, cleaning the house, driving to dr.’s appointments and to school functions, going shopping, and so many other things, and accomplishing all of this and more while, in many cases, working outside of the home as well. In my opinion, there isn’t a price that can be placed on the value of what a Mother does and who she is.
I have had many friends who are Mothers and after experiencing my own childhood and by observing the lives of my friends, I can truly see how much God has gifted a woman. As far as I am concerned, Fathers have it easy compared to a Mother. We get to go to work and provide for the family, attend school functions occasionally, help to discipline the children, and just be there to support the wife when needed. A woman has traits such as compassion, intuitive instincts, inexhaustible grace, within reason of course, foresight and hindsight that brings a level of understanding and wisdom beyond her years, and a love that could only come from the Creator Himself. These are characteristics and gifts that most men do not have, or at least do not exhibit very often. And strength, the incomprehensible strength that a woman exhibits as she carries her precious little one inside for nine months, enduring her aching back, all while still performing the duties of caring for her family and household. And then when the baby is born, she becomes the female version of Hercules in my opinion, holding her precious bundle for hours throughout the day, with seeming ease. I become tired holding a bag of groceries for a few minutes so I cannot understand the strength that a Mother has as she carries her little one close to her throughout the day and sometimes even through the night. Mothers, you have my utmost respect and admiration, not to mention being stronger than us men when it truly counts.
Well, I know that I could never truly encompass or express the importance of a Mother and what she offers to a child, but I hope I have been able to give you, a Mother, a little encouragement and a show of respect and gratitude for what you do and for who you are. From the band-aid on the knee to the kiss on the cheek before school, from attending countless games to helping pick out a prom dress or tux, from listening to our complaints as well as sharing in our defining moments, you were always there Mom. You are God’s most precious earthly gift to us, your children. Words seem inadequate to describe a Mother, but one word comes to my mind and I hope it comes close, and that word is “Priceless”. You are the most important person God ever put on this earth except for Jesus Himself and I am so thankful for all of you and for what you do and for who you are. I am sure I speak for countless others when I say “Thank You, Thank You, Thank You” for everything you’ve done and for everything that you are still doing in our lives. And even though I know we didn’t always show you how much you meant and still mean to us, please know that you are loved with a love that can only be shared between a child and his or her Mother. You are God’s daughter first and foremost, but I am so thankful that you will forever be, my Mom.
