The spirit of lying took man out of his holy state God made man in. It is designed to draw us out of that Holy place in God also as it did Adam and Eve.
That is not true says the Holy Ghost; you are lying! Does the Holy Ghost yet intervene in the lives of the saints? As I lay around, listen to people, or read things people have wrote I have to wonder if the Holy Ghost is working in their lives. I Know the Holy Ghost donít sleep but hear the lie coming out of our mouths without us thinking about it. I know the Holy Ghost tells us that that is a lie. He tells us right off when we are in error. He lets us know we are going the wrong way or saying things out of context or out of time. But we overstep the Holy Ghost and do what we want to anyway, why?
Itís because we have obtained a spirit of lying and it oversteps the bounds of truth and we soon stop repenting for lying. We began to believe the lie ourselves. Damage control causes one to lie all the time. Denial of whatís true causes one to have a lying spirit. A lying spirit is one that stretches the truth to fit its purposes for natural use and not God. A liar is always quick to give an answer and it may be a fabricated one. A lie is an intentional misrepresentation of fact or truth. Submission to the truth is urged of every believer that they donít lose their salvation behind lying. Lying is not of God, but Satan who was a liar from the beginning and yet still; the father of lies.
Jeremiah 27:8-11 and it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon that nation will I punish, saith the Lord, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand. Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor by your sorcerers, which speak unto you saying, ye shall not serve the king of Babylon; for they prophesy a lie unto you to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish. But the nations that bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land saith the Lord; and they shall till it, and dwell therein.
We know the story of how Satan in the beginning beguiled Eve and deceived Adam out of their rightful place in the Garden of Eden with a half-truth and half-lie which is a whole lie. Jeremiah here deals with false prophets that misrepresented the truth of God. In Jeremiahís oracles, God the moral governor of the world is Israelís covenant God. Through Israel He sought to achieve moral purposes just as He does today. The northern kingdomís adulteries with the Baalim compelled God to divorce that is exile her. Judah, the southern kingdom failed to learn from Israelís experience. She out did Israel in sexual impurities, yet Judah repudiated the charges of religious infidelity. Therefore God must judge her.
Repentance might have stayed divorce proceedings or exile, her adulteries notwithstanding, so great is the Lordís grace. But so established was Judah in lewdness that she was incapable of moral amendment. Gradually social virtues disappeared. Sacrifices and ritual failed as substitutes for repentance and righteousness. Judah appalling sinfulness meant that sin must be congenital, hence her moral inability sprang from a sinful nature. Judgment was inescapable, and exile. But exile was not the final word. A remnant would return to live under Messiahís rule in religious and social security. Messiahís righteous rule over a righteous people helps explain Jeremiahís doctrine of the New Covenant.
People would be righteous because their hearts would be renewed. They would obey Godís laws from the heart spontaneously. The New Covenant insuring forgiveness and inward moral dynamics would transcend the legalism of the Old Covenant. Eventually through Christís sacrificial death, and the inward regenerative activity of the Holy Spirit, the New Covenant became a reality. And a reality it is. There are many that will pervert the Gospel for their own purposes through the spirit of lying. Jeremiah dealt with these false prophets in his day but that spirit still lingers among the believers today.
A liar is one who knowingly utters falsehood, one who declares to another as a fact what he knows to be not true, with intention to deceive. Liars are condemned in John 8:44 by Jesus and he tells them that they donít understand his speech and not only that they didnít want to hear the truth. Jesus told them that they were of their father the devil and the lusts of your father ye will do. Lusts in the life of the believer will cause them to lie to remain in control and build a reputation for themselves as they see themselves. The law was not made for the righteous man but for liars and everything that is contrary to sound doctrine. Why would those that are supposedly saved holy people allow themselves to be put in a position of pretention? Because they did they have obtained a spirit of lying and continue in it because of the lust of power and position.
This spirit must be exposed in our lives before we can really be free to serve God in spirit and in truth. The Scriptures record instances of lies told by good men and women, but without approving them. God is a God of Truth, He never approves a lie. The Holy Ghost will convict one of the lie they tell but itís up to them to bring correction in their life and conform to the will of God. Donít be a liar that wonít quit. Only what we witness of God in His Word is true and we should follow the Word. Follow a man as he follows the Word. So many false prophets have led people astray with a lie. Many Pastors keep people dedicated to them rather than God. They are living a lie because they put themselves in the place of God become little gís. Many lies to get money, honor, and prestige from people that donít matter. They will lose their soul at any cost because of the status they want in life.
Stop lying and tell the truth. It is so much easier to tell the truth than it is a lie. When you tell the truth it can be repeated over and over again and no one can change that truth into a lie. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. A liar is not walking after the Spirit but their spirit. Whether we write a lie or speak one itís still a lie. We are without excuse and the Devil will show you up. The righteousness of God must be fulfilled in us. Those that will lie is operating in a carnal mind rather they know it or not. To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. The carnal mind that lies is the enemy of God. It works against God and cannot be subject because it is not of the truth. A carnal minded person is in the flesh and cannot please God.
This spirit of lying must die and we come under the subjection of the Holy Ghost once more and again. We can only do this through mortifying the deeds of the body. The body can act outside the will of God and we must keep it in subjection to the Spirit. Delight ourselves in Christ after the inward man. Donít allow this spirit of lying to overtake you it wars against the law of the mind and bring us into captivity to the law of sin which is in our members. Say the truth in Christ and stop lying. Manís conscience should also bear him witness in the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost will keep us in check; just donít ignore Him. God forbid; yea let God be true, but every man a liar, as it is written that thou might be justified in your sayings and might overcome when thou are judges. Every lie a man can tell does not make the faith of God be without effect. We have a choice at the point we split our lips and the Holy Ghost check our minds to say I am not going to lie. We are judged as a sinner because the truth of God has not abounded through that lie. God gets no glory out of a lie. When manís faith weakens he will lie.
Man has gone out of the way and desperation sets in. They donít understand and fail to seek after God and go their own way. They have become unprofitable and turn to deceit. Their throats is an open sepulcher with their tongue being used for deceit and the poison of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood. Destruction and misery are in their ways and the way of peace have they not known. There is no fear of God left before their eyes. We donít have to lie. The righteousness of God is by faith of Jesus Christ to all that will believe. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. We are justified freely by Godís grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
Today is the day for every liar to stop. Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered. Today is the day of redemption but tomorrow is the day of the covers being pulled off. Repent today! He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself; he that believes not God has made him a liar, because he believes not the record that God gave to his Son. We can become a believer today and to those that are believers we can become a believer again of truth. Lying brings forth death; that as we have heard from the beginning, thou shall not lie still holds true today and we should walk in it. For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. We should look to ourselves that we lose not those things which we have gained of the Lord, but that we receive a full reward. Whosoever transgresses with a lie has not God and is not abiding in Christ.
Letís examine ourselves and see if we be found of God or not. Ask yourself if I died right now what would I have to give an account for. Stop lying today, repent; tomorrow is not promised.
