The God of the Old Testament is still the God of our times. He has not changed and His Holiness has not diminished. As in the Old Testament, God is honored with reverent fear and awe, and His Holiness cannot be trifled with. When any of the Israelites failed in doing this, specially in the temple or place of worship, God dealt with the transgression severely: death.
Today we have created a view of God that suits our human whims. We view Him as a God Who will tolerate and smile at our human antics and silly ways when we are before His Presence in the worship service. We forget that God has not changed. He is still the same God that demands our utmost honor and reverence.
Those who justify such foolishness as a "fruit of youth" fail to instill the correct view of Who God is. We must not adjust the concept of Who God is to suit the generation that hear our message of Him. Will you eat a piece of banana or a bread bun before the Presence of the Almighty God, the God of the Universe, the God Who parted the Red Sea, the God Who commands the waters and the winds, and can annihilate every molecule of your soul? Will you trifle with His Presence? Yes, we cannot see Him but at every worship service His Presence is there! Will we regard Him as just some distant Being out yonder watching with amusement our childish pranks, regardless of its connection to what we are trying to teach? Can we do that before God - because He is really there in our midst - can we?
We are not here to please men, but to please God. Either they accept the true concept of Who God is, or they will fail to grasp His Truth contained in His Word.
A.W.Tozer in his book "The Knowledge of the Holy" stated thus: "Always the most revealing thing about a Church is her idea of God, just as her most significant message is WHAT SHE SAYS ABOUT HIM or leaves unsaid..."
"A right concept of God is basic not only to systematic theology but to practical Christian living as well. It is to worship what the Foundation is to the temple..."
"The essence of Idolatry is the entertainment of thoughts about God that are unworthy of Him. It begins in the mind and may be present where no overt act of worship has taken place. Perverted notions of God soon rot the religions in which they appear.
It is necessary to the Church to have a lofty (supreme) concept of God, for when that concept declines, the Church with her worship and moral standards decline along with it. The first step downwards for any church is taken when it surrenders it high regard for God.
We do the greatest service to the next generation of Christians by passing on to them undiminished and undimmed that noble concept of God which we received from our Hebrew and Christian fathers from generations past." *

How can one have a correct and biblical view of God? The chapter of John 17 tells us what Jesus Christ clearly states. John 17: 3 defines eternal life as knowing God. The way to knowing is through His Word in John 17:17 and through the Holy Spirit that gives guidance and revelation in John 16: 13-15.
"Great and marvelous are your deeds,
LORD God Almighty.
Just and true are Your ways,
King of the ages.
Who will not fear You, O LORD,
and bring glory to Your Name?
For You alone are Holy.
All nations will come
and worship before you,
for Your righteous acts have been
REVELATION 15 : 3
We cannot worship and honor God acceptably, or pray with power to Him, unless we have a right view of Who God really is - His awesome, mighty, powerful, and majestic Character as God. We always say "level up your faith" - I say level up our flawed concept of the great God we speak of.
