Why Did The People Die
Why Did The People Die
This is a question we can ask ourselves; why are we dying concerning Christ? What is the cause of people dying outside of Christ? When we consider our ways and actions we will find that we too are dying and donít realize it. `
Exodus 19:5If ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people
I Peter 1:14 as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance
Many deals will obedience and ignorance every day. We learn of Christ every day, yet we donít come to know Him in the fullness that He is. Why did the people die? Why wonít we obey? Christ is referred to as a rock of offence. This is because His life, teachings, and death were so entirely different from what the Jews had expected as to prove an obstacle to their acceptance of Him as the long promised Messiah. The people in Noahís time didnít believe him either when he told them of what God had said. Why did the people die? They died because they simply chose not to obey.
God had commanded Noah in Genesis 6:14-16 and 8:1-13 to build an Ark. He gave Noah the know how to construct it with instructions as to the purpose for which it would be used. It was a large, floating vessel which would preserve the life of all that would be on board. Noah and his family were preserved during the deluge because they obeyed God and believed him at his word. He took on two of every kind of animal that the world would have reproduction in it. The people were not ignorant of what was going to happen, they just failed to believe. It wasnít that God wanted to destroy man he just wanted them to obey. We donít have to see to believe so all they needed to do was have a little faith; it would have saved their lives.
Just as then man is not without knowledge of God. We are not of yesterday and know nothing because yesterday is today in the shadows. God is nigh them that love him and obey. The knowledge we have of God is too wonderful to ignore. The Word makes us foresee the future and the evil that is to come. We know what the day will bring forth without Christ. Who knows whatís best for us than our Creator? Who can tell us what will be under the sun other than God? Itís time we become wise men and women of God and take shelter in His Word. It is past the time that man worship God ignorantly. God wants to behold our devotion in worship to Him. God is commanding us to repent. We know in part and prophesy in part. Now we see through the glass darkly; but then face to face, now we know in part. We are not ignorant concerning the things of God for Jesus our Savior has come to void the ignorance. Why would we want to die life those in Noahís day that refused to obey the command of God that was to put their lives to safety?
We must war with the enemy within us. We must be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We must be renewed in our spirit man that we learn to obey. The Holy Ghost is there to help us to continue in Christ. He is the continuator of the work of Christ and will teach man how to conduct themselves in the way of holiness, righteousness, and sanctification. Noah told the people simply to get in the boat. Whatís wrong with us we wonít get into the boat of knowledge; the Word of God and preserve our lives? We are the bride of Christ; the Church He will come back for in that day. What are we doing in preparation for the wedding? Serving God is a lifetime commitment. This union cannot be dissolved by any other means than disobedience. Either we are for God or against Him. Once we really come to know God we can never run away from Him. He is here, there and everywhere. Our mind is stayed on Him even when we donít want to think about Him. Itís our own disobedience that causes death to come to us, both naturally and spiritually.
To learn to obey and live we must get God inside of our loins. The inside is where the Spirit dwells in man; it is representative of the seat of strength. It is the strongest kind of evidence that God is real in our lives. Our minds have been regenerated, restored in the truth, and awaiting the second coming of Christ. We must be birth through the Holy Spirit for whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for Christ seed remain in us and we cannot sin because of the new birth. Noah had a genuine love for the people and tried tirelessly to get them to come on board the Ark. It was not him but them that disobeyed that died in the flooding waters that overtook them. When we allow sin to overtake us we drown in them. When we drown in our sin we are yet living but we are dead because of trespasses. For the same reason of doubt we too fail to obey Godís Word. These people doubted that Noah knew what he was talking about. Unbelief is doubt and doubt is sin. Many today doubt that God is; unbelief is sin.
Jesus came to help our unbelief. He came to redeem us from sin and to teach us to say yes to God. It is still Godís desire that none of us perish but have everlasting life. To repent is to change attitudes and the test of repentance is the altered conduct. Godly sorrow leads to repentance, rather than flows from it. Repentance is the first condition of forgiveness but it is not possible to bring this change upon oneís own self and the act is repeatedly said to be stimulated by the initiative of God Himself. To turn from sin to righteousness is repentance. Repent today and live. Obey Godís Word that we may live. Obey the Spirit that we may live. Who knows better than God how we are to live godly in this time? If my people which are called by my name would humble themselves, pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal the land.
Why sit here and die when we can accept Jesus Christ, pick up Godís Word, Will and Way and live? Depart from evil, and do good, seek peace and pursue it. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart and save such as be of a contrite spirit. God wants to blot out our transgressions and have us return to Him; for it is He that have redeemed us from death. Seek Him while he may be found, call upon Him while he is near. We are admonished today to forsake our willful evil ways and unrighteous thoughts and return to the Lord. We donít have to die for He will have mercy upon us and abundantly pardon our sin.
Why did the people die? They died because they were not willing to give up their sinful desires of life. They died because they loved the world more than the Creator of the world. They died because of their choices. They died because of their failure to see God. They died because the person God used was not the choice they would have made. They died because they did other than what God had told them to do. They died because they took joy in the world instead of having the joy of the Lord. They died because they had peace in where they were in life.
