Let not sleep by trouble be from me taken often,
that I should spend the hours a corpse disturbed within its safe sealed coffin,
and fretful while away the opportunity of midnight's morning
with pensive thoughts that brood o'er worry's vain and slightest warning.
Rather would I that peace attend my bedded rest,
and with the gift of guiltless slumber be by mercy blessed,
that my sub-conscious thus may surface unimpeded,
and by wish fulfillment satisfy what missing I have needed.
May my mind soon cease to nightly wander,
and lay aside all speculations it may anxious ponder,
but instead give place to trust that placid does me still,
and yield me up to Him who orders all things by His gracious will.
