Sunday 8/19/12 Pastor Michael sermon=Faith for Grown Folk-From Milk to Meat James 1:1-8
With biology, time and chemistry have one growing older. Just because the person’s body gets older doesn’t mean they are grown. There are children in grown folk bodies-not mature yet. James, the half brother of Jesus, is speaking to the church about how they should grow up, stop whining and have faith. He wants them to go from milk to meat in their Christianity. Each experience we have, we should learn something from it. We should become better and not bitter, Have a testimony and not a complaint.
****** To Have Grown Folk Faith ******
1) Have a Right Attitude During Our Trials
Count it all Joy! verse 2. Have an outlook that the trial is designed to take you to your next level. Look at it differently, as a experience that will test us and take us up to our next level. Right attitude-we will have joy. Joy! Every trial in life is a gift from God to allow us to get to the next level. It doesn’t feel good but its good for us! We learn lessons that we are supposed to learn while we are down in the valley. It is for us! When they talk about us, when we lose jobs, its for us! Its to test us and raise us up! It may appear that we are losing but if we stay in the battle, we win.! And …we come out of the battle better and better because of what we been thru. We come out better because of where we came from. Whatever the devil takes us through, we bounce back better!! Thank you Jesus!!
The quickest way to go thru trials is to have a good attitude. Quickest way thru a trial is to have Joy. We go thru trials quicker then if we complain because that stretched it out longer. We can see in the Word that the people God allows to go thru trials, come out better! David fought / killed a giant and later he became king!
Pain comes with life. You cannot live life without some pain. So we need to just have joy and go thru it. No Pain, No Gain! Pregnant women have pain and labor before the baby comes. The purpose of your pain is to push you to your destiny! Every time we go thru pain, the push is our praise! Push! Praise! Push! Praise! Push to our next level! Praise! Praise the Lord! You are not grown in the Lord until you are at home with pain. Until then, you are still a baby. A baby that every time the devil brings a pain, you whine aaaayyyy….aaaayyyy. Grown folk in the Lord, praise the Lord! Those of us in pan right now are going from milk to meat and from immaturity to maturity.
2) Have Patience
We don’t learn how to go thru stuff until we go through it. You get strengthened while going thru it. Single sisters!! Slick Willie shouldn’t be able to fool you a second time! You should see him a mile away! Faith is developed in the struggles. If we want God to strengthen our faith, then here comes some trials to test our faith. We lose our job at IBM and have to trust God instead of IBM.
Those of us who are really going thru should be glad because the resurrection Sunday comes after the crucifixion Friday. God is trying to kill some stuff in us that’s been living in us too long. Our suffering could also mean that we are doing something right. Look at Job. He was a good, righteous and holy man. God recommended Job to Satan because God knew He could trust Job. So…it may be that God recommended us to Satan to send a trial to strengthen us.
3) We Need to Have Right Answers
Ask God for the Wisdom in how to use the trial we are going through. Pray for revelation from God as to why we are going thru it. Ask for the reason while we are still going thru the trial. Don’t wait to find out years later after the trial is over. Sometimes we stay in the trial longer because we don’t praise and thank God that we are still sane, in our right mine! We need to thank God for still having our joy. We need to thank God that the trial is going to take us up to our next level. Thank Jesus for what is going to come out of all these trials! Stay in Faith! We are going to be better! Trust God to bring us through the trials! Stay in Faith! Praise God!
