The Poison Of Sin
The poison of sin to the spirit of man is like an infected mosquito that has West Nile when they bite a person. It can kill instantly, slowly, or not at all depending upon the immune system of the person bit.
On last week I was bitten by a mosquito as I sat on my step talking to some of the neighbor’s kids about going back to school. Later that night I begin to feel bad and started itching all over my body. These knots started coming on my skin, my skin turned red and became puffy overnight. My skin was hot to the touch and it went all over my body in a day time. I took Benadryl but to no avail. I ended up going to the hospital, my blood pressure was dropping, my chest was hurting, and I was itching like someone that had ants crawling all over their body. I had prayed “God I Need You To Touch My Body”. I was already bothered with other things going on with my back, neck, and legs. They diagnosed my condition as an allergic reaction and Cellutitis. A few days later I heard of a man dying within three days after being bit by a mosquito from West Nile Disease. His son spoke about how quickly it happened. He said his dad had other sicknesses in his body that could have contributed to his immune system being too weak to fight off death. I laid there and realized how blessed I was to still be alive. I killed two mosquitos in my house as big as a fly but smaller than a wasp.
Isaiah 1:18-20 come now let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient ye shall eat the good of the land; but if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
Well God spoke to me this morning and said what happen with you is like the poison of sin. He said “sin is red like crimson and it can kill instantly or slowly”. But then He said “it don’t have to kill at all, I can wash it white as snow”. Isaiah dealt here with the sin of a nation. It is a time of rebuke and promise. God is so faithful after He rebukes us to give us grace to come out of whatever we are in. We however cannot be so rebellious that we won’t take our lick and get it right. Rebellion is a reproach against a nation because it causes a rise against God or man. It denotes that somewhere there are some dissenters, those that oppose what it being said or done. Well we have some renegades when it comes to sin. They are radical in nature when their sin is approached. They become militant and riotous. What they are saying is leave me alone I like what I am doing and you can’t change me.
Isaiah in this passage was talking about the vision he had concerning the people of Judah and Jerusalem. Isaiah is known to us as the evangelical prophet because he gives the fullest and clearest exposition of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be found anywhere in the Old Testament. Isaiah gives special emphasis to the doctrine of God, in His omnipotence, His omniscience, and His redemptive love. The imaginary gods of the idol-worshiping heathen preached down and God was lifted up in all sovereignty as the one and only true God; the Creator of the universe. God has ordained all the events of history according to His own master plan. He marvelously fulfills the predictions uttered by His Prophets in demonstration of the authority and inspiration of His Word. God upholds the moral law, brings into judgment all of the ungodly nations of the heathen, even the wealthiest and most powerful of them, and consigns them to the ash heap of eternity, while His chosen people live on to glorify His name.
Isaiah presented the Lord to the people and he prophesied as the Lord gave him word. God requires a holy life, one of sacrificial living above and beyond the formalities of sacrificial worship. This prophetic warning and appeal is not to destroy but to restore man to right relationship with the Father. God allow man to go through in the way of chastisement to bring them to repentance. God is faithful to His covenant people and the faithful guarantor of His gracious promises to forgive them when repentant and to deliver them from the power of the enemy. God is ready to rescue us from the assaults of our own arrogance to bring us back from the enslavement of sin. We can’t save ourselves from sin and evil. Sin was brought to us through the inherent nature of Adam and it still separates us from God today.
Sin has destroyed the basic structure of the family. Where we once had father, mother and children, we entertain two fathers with or without children, or two mothers with or without children or simply single parent homes. Something is wrong. We have poisoned the very structure God originally created and made for mankind. God created two of everything and if it can’t mate and reproduce it’s not of God. Not only has sin destroyed the basic structure of the family, it is on its way to destroying the basic structure of man. Man will not think pass their own egos. They are rabid, obsessed, raging, and insane with this thing called sin. They love it and zealously go after it. What have we done in God’s Earth?
Sure it started with Adam, but it ended with Jesus; the second Adam. We don’t have to sin and be so unruly in the world. We can live a life free of sin if we choose to. Sin is poison to the mind, body, soul, and spirit of man. It comes in like a bite at first; it stings but then stops. The hole closes up so we no longer pay any attention to the bite. Before we know it our whole body has been poisoned rapidly. In other words we get caught up in stuff before we realize it. But why do we entertain stuff that we get into in the first place? There go the five senses God placed in our head and hands. We have just allowed sin access to our body; the most precious commodity man has in the earth. We just got poisoned but what are we going to do about it? We have been disseminated with a new found heat. Now we are playing around with the heat of sin, we are polluted with death that is spreading while we yet live. Sin spreads like a wildfire. It is quick and consuming. Sin takes us away from our original state of being. Sin even takes away our swagger; we can’t boast of who we are anymore because we have become this two headed monster.
The poison of sin breaks relationships of every kind. It makes one suspicious all the time of the other because sin says I can’t be trusted. The poison of sin surges to the mind where we speculate or surmise that the guilty party is still involved in their sin although they are out of it. They have conquered the enemy but yet the poison is still there. God forgives sin but the judgment for sin is still there. Satan’s sentence in hell won’t be commuted. Sin is poison that will sit around and collect dust; it doesn’t want to go anywhere. Sin is the most committed being in the world; you would never have a problem with it. Other than the crimson stain sin leaves it has no place in the hearts of man.
There is nothing positive about poison. Poison is a substance that through its chemical action kills, injures, or impairs an organism. It is
something destructive and harmful. It inhibits the activity of another substance or the course of a reaction or process. Sin inhibits the program of God. Sin kills our progress in Christ, injures our relationship with Christ and impairs our ability to operate spiritually. Sin is poison and eventually destroys the sinner. Not only that the poison of sin will cause the sinner to bring harm to others. Sin is a problem in the world; from the first family even until now. Sin exerts itself and its influence on the strongest of Christian; even the elect of God. It comes in and impregnates itself on the inside of man corrupting the mind that man once had to obey God. We give up a lot to drink the poison of sin.
Sin when it is conceived brings forth death. Sin is not just a word we use for wrongdoing it carries a spirit of evil with it. People we are more than what others see. We have spirituality, the state of being spiritual; of being a spiritual character, spiritual mindedness. Spirituality is the indwelling of the spirit of God. Spirituality consists of spiritual, not of material but incorporeal things. The spiritual nature of man is distinguished from the physical. To be spiritual is to be refined from evil things; not sensual. It pertains to the spiritual state that brings purity of thought, mind, and heart, controlled and inspired by the divine spirit. The Holy Ghost has been employed to help us to come out from under influence of the poison of sin. It gives us the strength to overcome carnal-mindedness. The Holy Ghost implanted in mind of man gives them a disposition and resolution through which they can willingly and gladly incline themselves to love, delight in, and to attend spiritual things.
When our hearts are purified spiritually it begins to remove the poison of sin from our minds and hearts. We lose the desire to sin. Now we have to pursue spiritual objectives, appreciate spiritual blessings, be led by spiritual motives, and in all respects, to allow the temple of the purified heart to control and direct our life. The reward is spiritual joy, and a life of good report.
Now we have victory manifested in our lives over the power and influence of sin. We have been given wisdom concerning the poison of sin; so what are we going to do about it? What shall we say then; shall we continue in sin? God forbid! As a Christian we grow as we learn. When we learn the way do good, do good. When we find that we are wrong; correct our way. When we find we are exhibiting acts not of God, change them. The choice to live or die is set forth here today and we must choose. Either we will follow Christ or die in our sin. Will we be delivered from the poison of sin or will we perish with the enemy. He has already been judged to spend eternity in hell, but we have a choice. We don’t have to die in our sin but repent and come to Christ. Jesus is standing at the door and knocking, open up and let Him come into your hearts today.
Jesus will free us today from the poison of sin and give us eternal life. Do you want it?
