I heard a sailor say that sea sickness in the open sea is often (though not always)caused by the lack of a reference point, by the fact that in the continual rocking back and forth all directions look the same. It could be something similar with regard to the soul, a kind of moral sickness can result from the lack of an absolute reference point of right and wrong, whose screaming symptoms insist that all paths are equal, that in our goings to and fro on this planet one direction is as good as another, that they all meet in the end anyway. But do they?
