"Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests." Ephesians 6:18
There are many kinds of prayers. Asking God, casting your burdens on the Lord, reasoning with God, intercession, petition for yourself. Repeat prayers over many days, weeks, months and years till the answer arrives.
Unspoken prayer, praying out loud, praying in the mind, praying alone, praying with others. Praying in agreement with at least one other, praying in tongues, praying up scripture verses, using scripture as inspiritation for prayers.
Praying for things past, like healings, things present, and things in the future. Praying for the visions God has given. Prayer with fasting, with the discipline of eating vegetables only. Prayer with no food or water as Esther did.
Prayer can be an enjoyable activity. It is absolutely needed to survive this life. Without God, situations may not change. Without God, extraordinary things may never happen. But with God the impossible happens.
Sometimes we have to pray and there is a lot to get over to God. So it is a mix of some of the above in one session. Asking God, reasoning, casting my anxieties, interceding, asking for myself, all in the mix of a morning prayer. Some burdens seem huge and are overpowering, and seem to weigh heavy. Humanly I am not able to shift the problem.
After giving it all to God, I feel less burdened. God has now got the requests and all I have to do is wait and follow him. We have to pray so that God can act for us. It is why we are where we are. It is breath and life to us. God breathes life onto earth because we pray.
We pray so that what is rightfully both ours and Gods can happen here on earth. We pray so that God and his kingdom can prevail on earth. The Mighty God who does wonderful things. When God answers, it is a relief, a joy or I am astonished.
