Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, neither has the heart of man conceived the beauty and splendour that will characterise the millennial Temple! Solomon’s creation (1 Kings 6) typed it, Herod’s gift to the post-Captivity Jews (Luke 21:5) aspired to it, and if you have noticed it, the designer of the celebrated Taj Mahal in India (a structure that we will still take a close look at) must have had some thoughts. Yet the real thing would have to be seen!
The Temple will, however, only be the religious seat of Christ’s dominion, the focus of His priestly functions. As King of a global kingdom, He will also have a political seat, an equally worthy palace, even as Solomon the great type had the famed edifice “in the forest of Lebanon.” Read about it in 1 Kings 7. Despite the breath-stopping splendour of Solomon’s Temple, which took seven years for the most skilful hands available to finish and has been listed among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, we are told that his palace was in building thirteen years! So, if you think the Palace of Versailles of King Louis XIV of France would have been a magnificent sight to behold, or that the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace is extravagant, or that Bill Gates’ “Ode to Monstrosity” in Seattle is something to talk about, or that Randolph Hearst was ambitious with his famous San Simeon “Pleasure Dome,” or that other “men of means” and prospering nations and institutions of the present world have built worthy tributes to themselves and their leaders – you would have to see the Jerusalem abode of the coming King of kings, the One who is greater than Solomon – yes, than Bill Gates!
