Just a thought, but oh what a thought ! Might be a good idea for believers to take notice and at least tuck this one away for the future !
Not long ago I sat in a little bible study of less than 10 other older men.. The subject ? Donít even remember the actual topic but what I do remember is the subject moving along the lines of end time prophecy and, as has been covered millions of times before in millions of other bible studies, we came to the familiar part of the temple and how the anti-Christ would desecrate the temple of God.
1Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.
Suddenly, a thought entered my mind that I had never before heard or entertained. Knowing that God does not readily and easily reveal all things to all people, it occurred to me that the obvious reference to the temple here may not actually be a building at all. We know that the old covenant is full of types and shadows to give only a hint at the real thing. In this case the temple is actually a type of the human and his tripartite being which was built by God for His eventual abode. The outer court being the manís physical body, the inner court being the soul (mind, will and emotions) while the inner most, Holy of Holies, is the manís spirit.
Corinthians 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. (KJV WBS)
I am not suggesting that there will never again be a physical building called the temple of God but what I am saying is that this temple that the antichrist is supposed to enter and desecrate could possibly be the man himself. Think with me for a minute. How many times do we find ourselves saying that Satan seems to copy everything that God Himself does. Since Godís purpose and plan was entering into the man via his spirit, why can we not conceive of the possibility of Satan attempting to do the very same thing at the very conclusion of the church age, prior to the Lordís coming and the millennial reign ?
It reminds me of books I used to read on the new age movement and their so-called ďChrist consciousnessĒ. Kind of scary when you think about this possibility in light of what came to me in that little bible study.
I must say that when I mentioned to the class this idea of Satan entering the physical body of man as opposed to the universally accepted concept of the temple building it did not go over too well. Any new concept is going to be met with skepticism of course. Jesus Himself was not so well received even, since He did not meet with the popular ideas and concepts of what the Messiah would look like, how he would act, where He was born, and what He would and would not do upon the earth. Their concepts and preconceived ideas kept many who were actually looking for Him to not be able to recognize Him.
So then, I said that to say this Ö we should not easily refute something simply on the basis of not being the accepted norm when it comes to concepts and ideas but rather to seek the Holy Spirit who leads us to all truth. As is always the case however, we must be sure that we are OF the truth in order for the Spirit of truth to reveal the same !
Anyway, not trying to be a provocateur, just putting it out there for all to consider. I am not saying this is prophecy, but I am not saying it canít be either. The way it came to me was completely unexpected as is often the case when the Spirit moves.
Let me remind you that since the days of Adam, there has been a spiritual battle raging on, both in the heavenlies and upon the earth and revolves around the men whom God created and placed as the authority over the earth. Satan has tried to kill steal and destroy through every means imaginable over time. Nothing is off limits with him, even trying to end the pure blood line of man through mating with the fallen angels.
So then, is it really that hard to believe that in the very last days Satan would make this move of at least imitating the Lordís abode in men. It would not be the same of course but would very much appear to be ! This is scary stuff ! This is something to at least keep in mind as a possibility as the day draws near !
