Had my heart broke today. Can I share it with you?
People are hurting today! Loss of jobs, being evicted, spouses leaving one another and leaving the children with just one parent to support them. These are a sign of the times we live in, much like in the Great Depression, but worse. Back then the churches and even neighbors would step in to help those in distress. There was a sense of community then. Not so today.
How many neighbors even know each other today? How many churches have a food pantry and assist their neighbors in times of great despair? I am ashamed to say, too few.
A single mother with 4 kids called me today. She sounded desperate. She didn't have anything in her home to feed her kids. She had been attending one of the largest churches in this area and had called them for help with food. She was only able to leave a recorded message and she did. Four days later and out of food...no return call from them. She found our number and called me and I met her at Arise at 3:00 PM.
This young mother came in with twin boy toddlers, one on each hip. She looked so sad but she left there with a joyous smile on her face, a trunk full of groceries, and hope in her heart.
That's why we do it! To bring aid in times of trouble and hope for despair. It opened a door for me to minister to her and invite her to come and visit with our Christian family.
She didn't have to beg. I thanked her for giving us an opportunity to share with her what God had given to us. The poor are the ones God uses to bless the poor. Seems the rich do little to help the downtrodden. Perhaps a token gift now and then to make them feel better. Yet, the poor suffer daily and so often continuously. The working poor seem to relate to the daily needs of each other and share what they have.
This young mother related to me that her mega-church was in a building program and had their resources tied up. I pray that God would tear down those new walls and bring this church the true understanding about the reason and responsibilities of "The Church." The church is infiltrated with charlatans and ego seekers. But, not for much longer now. God is shaking His Church and the true believers are being refined as pure gold. That which is false will be torn away. God is purging His Sons bride and making her ready to receive the Bride Groom. Come quickly Lord Jesus.
We were able to share with five families today, alone. Each one had a story of despair, frustration, and desperation. Thank you Lord, for helping us to make a difference in their lives.
I appeal to anyone who reads this to ask God how you can help feed the poor in your church, neighborhood, and everyday environment without expecting them to beg for help. If you can't come up with a way, we, at Arise Christian Fellowship would be grateful for any donations of food or money to buy food for this work God has given us. You can send any donation to: Arise Christian Fellowship, 5715 Princess Anne Rd., Virginia Beach, VA. 23462. Every last dime of it will go to buy food for the poor. We take no salaries or other compensation at Arise. This ministry is a work of love to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
God bless you and keep you till His glorious appearing.
You are greatly loved,
Rev. Dr. Lucian L. Thompson

Greeting Reverend Thompson -
Thank you so much for this article. The content is a very helpful reminder that we need to be about our Father GOD's business according to His Holy Bible.
As a former shelter resident, I'm quite familiar with the positions of people in such states.
Presently, my financial status doesn't allow me to contribute much to the poor, but certainly when I'm able, I'll do more.
Again, thank you so much for demonstrating love - in actions.
