I am sitting in my room waiting for a radio broadcast to air. It is an author interview and profile of my book, "GOD'S HEALING HOPE: BREAKING THE STRONGHOLDS OF WRONG THINKING" which was self-published in 2008. This is not being said to brag, but it is a very huge step in my journey as a published author. All writers have a particular message that they seek to communicate to the masses, and radio is of course, one of the main media outlets in which to do this.
There is excitement as I ponder the radio broadcast going into over 60 cities in 26 states. Each person who will be listening is one whose life can be impacted by the message from my life as told in my book. This is why I write. I want people to be challenged in how they think about themselves, God, and other people.
An even more important reason for why this is a significant step is that it has been a long-term goal. Writers must continually and persistently be moving forward to get their message out anyway they can.
What is exciting is that the book now has nationwide exposure, but is totally out of my control in terms of what happens. I have no control over who was listening to the promo, or who buys a book. I will never know who might have tuned in. This is exactly the way I want it. This gives me the opportunity to believe and expect God's ultimate best and to not accept anything less than that. There is no telling what God will do as a result of the book going nationwide. My life verse is Ephesians 3:20. "Now to God who is able to do beyond what we ask or think, according to His power that works within us."
However, I must be ready and willing to go through any doors that open as a result of this promotion. You see, I have a confirmed calling of God, not just a "calling" based upon feelings. My ministry of writing and speaking has been confirmed by many people and open doors of opportunity. As I wait for the clock to tick down to the time of the broadcast I am thinking back over the past several years on all of the things that have led up to this point.
What an incredible journey it has been, in seeing how the book came together through God's provision, then posting articles on faithwriter's that have been helpful to people all over the world. After this I saw God raise up a speaking ministry. Many wonderful people have come into my life and I could not have made this journey without them. I have learned what a true calling is and have come to recognize when God opens a door. Now the book is on Amazon and kindle ebook.
Now, on the next segment of my journey as the book has been promoted nationally I do not know what will transpire, but I do know that it would be a mistake to expect anything less than God's best. It is necessary, however, to keep moving, asking, seeking, and knocking. Remember this: success is not a destination but a journey of becoming more like the person you are designed to be and seeing God work in the process.
I came across a series of verses in my Bible reading that stood out in my mind and put the capstone on the next leg of my journey. I am 63 years old and these verses apply to me personally. "Do not cast me off in the time of old age. Do not forsake me when my strength fails." (Psalm 71:9) "O God, you have taught me from my youth, and I still declare Thy wondrous deeds, and even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Thy strength to this generation, Thy power to all who are to come." (Psalm 71:17-18) "That the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born. That they may arise and tell their children, that they should put their confidence in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments." (Psalm 78:6-8)
This is my mission as an author for the rest of my days.
