John 1:23 -- John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one calling in the desert, 'Make straight the way for the Lord.
I am a new writer, but for years Iíve had the words in me. Itís only in the past few months that I have been able to get them out. I write about my faith in Jesus, of course, because three years ago I became a born again Christian, and God spoke to my heart to write about it so others might be led to the truth that is His Son, Jesus Christ. I love to write about Jesus and share with others the miracles He has performed in my life. He saved my life three years ago when I was to die, so I am a miracle!
There are other subjects God has put in my heart to write about as well. Things we donít talk about. Like child abuse, abortion, homelessness, the loneliness and plight of the elderly, mental illness, just to name a few. I have always been an advocate for the underdog. In fact I have been called a bleeding heart liberal by some, but thatís just me. I have a heart; it pumps blood, so there you go. I just hate to see injustice, and each of these subjects have touched my life in some form or fashion.
Raising awareness about child abuse is first and foremost on my list of causes. So many people suspect abuse of children yet do nothing to prevent it. Children of abuse have no voice, so we must become their speakers. We are afraid of offending anyone, so we look the other way. When we do that we offend the child, and ultimately offend ourselves.
Abortion is also something I have written about. I had one in my younger years and have paid dearly each and every day of my life. People have asked me, ďHow could you write about that and put it out there for the whole world to see?Ē Exactly, so the whole world can see, and hopefully prevent others from making the same horrible mistake.
Homelessness is another sore subject with me. We should not judge. Not one of us has been where they have walked. All I have to say here is to please have a little compassion. Anyone could become homeless at any time for any reason. There but for the grace of God we go. Offer up a prayer for them, and you will be blessed.
Elderly people are precious. They too, are often abused and most certainly neglected. A visit to a nursing home once in a while would make them so happy and do the visitor a world of good. They need love too, and having an advocate to make sure they are properly taken care of would help them immensely.
The mentally ill are just that, ill. I am manic depressive myself, so I probably have more understanding of chemical imbalances than people who are not. They need our solemn prayers. Jesus restored me, He can restore anyone, but some are sicker than others and need our prayers and compassion as well.
All of the above can be resolved by only one thing, a deep abiding faith in a man called Jesus Christ. Please pray about these things, and when you pray, believe! With God, nothing is impossible. I am living, breathing proof of this fact. If I can be saved, anyone can.
I only ask that all remember these subjects in your prayers. I will continue to write about them and help in any way God asks me to. I have often wondered what His purpose was in saving a wretch like me. Now, I think I may know. Maybe He wanted me to become a voice for the things we donít talk about.
