Why Does One Go To Hell?

How would you respond to a lost friend who makes this argument, “If God is always loving toward people and God sends some people to hell, then how is that an act of a loving God?"

The following would be my answer to my lost friend:

Well, my friend, God is called in the Bible a father, a king, the good shepherd, and a judge.

A good father sets rules for his children, so that they may obey and be safe to lead a good life. If he has set no boundaries, these young children will live their lives seeking their own pleasures above the good of others. They become selfish, self -absorbed, and self-willed, without boundaries and consequences. A loving father, even when his children make poor decisions in life, still comes to free them from bondage and death, when he can. Jesus comes to your aid as a loving father would do, if you were, let’s say, in jail. (However, once you die, no one can help you. It is too late!)

One who has the power to grant this kind of clemency to the entire world would be a king. John 3:17 says, “For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world, through him might be saved.” Remember, Pilate wrote “king of the Jews” above Jesus’ cross on Calvary.

The good shepherd would sacrifice his very life for his lost sheep. Jesus died on the cross for you and for me. He laid down his life for you, no man taketh his life. He chose to give his life for you. Why? John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

My friend, God does not send you to Hell!

You send yourself to Hell when you choose to live your life separated from God!

God is a wise and a righteous judge. He judges well. He does not accept bribes and insincere excuses. He does not judge like man. He does not take into consideration your color, your social status, your place of birth, your ancestral heritage, your age, your ethnicity, your sex, your sexual orientation, your fame, your wealth, your reputation, your other crimes, your background, the way you were raised, circumstantial evidence, or any un-mitigated circumstances. He does not hold sidebars. He does not confer with any other legal expert other than Jesus Christ who is your mediator, if and only if, you grant him permission to defend you as a “propitiation through faith in his blood to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.” Romans 3:25 Also, Romans 10:13 declares, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Sending a sinner to Hell, who has been given redemption through Christ Jesus, is indeed the righteous act of the Father, who loves his creation who has sinned and deserves punishment.

Your faith, your heart, and your life bare evidence to the truth. Actually, you deserve the wrath of God! Jesus causes you to be free! Repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ today and then rejoice! Jesus adds in Luke 15:6b, “Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.”
