“It is the Spirit who gives life ; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.”
“For the word of God is living and active…piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit…”
“These things are only spiritually discerned”
We are on a journey. The journey is through the wilderness and that wilderness… well, it’s the wilderness in our soul life. The objective in Christ is to follow Him out from the wilderness life lived within the confines of our soul life to that of the eternal life to be lived, experienced and enjoyed in our spirits.
Hebrews speaks of this very journey both of the literal journey of Israel from Egypt to the promised land and what it signifies to the believers and genuine followers of Christ.
“Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. For we who have believed enter that rest…”
How sad and tragic that few believers today know much less experience this blessed truth of entering the rest of God. It is the mark and the goal of the gospel.
Let me offer a simple translation of this and may the Lord give you understanding/revelation of this blessed truth !
The Lord brings us by the hand out of Egypt (the world) and into the wilderness experience of our soul and it’s environment (ie trials, tribulations and sufferings) so that by faith we facilitate the division of soul and spirit (as in the above scripture in Heb. 4;12) for the abundant life (eternal life) of a walk in the spirit (the promised land, the rest of God flowing with milk and honey).
This, my friends is the great mystery of the gospel of Christ !
