She tiptoed through the cool morning grass. Tiny green blades, damp with dew, tickled her feet as she sneaked her way across the meadow to the rippling brook waiting at its edge. The sun began to climb sleepily over the tree tops, and the birds began to greet her good morning with their gentle sunrise song. She held her soft pink nightgown, gathered at her leg, to prevent it from becoming damp. As she neared the object of her fascination, she felt the thrill of seeing her reflection and dipping her toes in the chill waters, the waters that laughed as they playfully rolled over the smooth river rocks, swooshing and swirling, carrying her worries away.
The edges of the brook were covered with soft beds of green moss providing a comfortable cushion as she sat down. She wiggled her toes in the clear waters and a shiver ran down her back. Goose bumps rose to attention along her arms. Her cheeks, the color of delicate roses, and her porcelain skin glowed in the morning light. As the sun beams found their way through the whispering green leaves of the majestic forest trees, her chestnut hair glistened in their warmth. Her green eyes sparkled. She exhaled slight breath of ecstasy. She leaned back to soak it all in, placing her hands on the soft moss blanketing the edge of her favorite place in the whole world, the place where worries melted away and she felt closest to Abba, Father. Closing her eyes she inhaled deeply, the mingled scents of country wildflowers and woodland greenery wove a tapestry of peace. The melody of the babbling brook entranced her.
Her thoughts drifted off to her father in Heaven. She marveled at the idea that He had created this place just for her. That He could create a place of such beauty. Her pink lips began to mouth words of praise and thanksgiving for the gift he’d given her this morning. The peace gently rippled through her body, relaxing every inch as He filled her with His presence and love. She knew that no matter what the day ahead held in store for her, He’d be with her each step of the way.
As she sat there contemplating the love of the Father, she heard the nearby scampering of some small woodland creature, a squirrel perhaps. Like a jolt, thoughts of the busy day that lay ahead began to interrupt her peaceful meditation. Visions of a hectic schedule began to flood her mind, the endless “to do list” of chores and responsibilities. She struggled to be thankful for these, too. It was easy to feel peace in the solitude of this sanctuary. To feel peace in the midst of life’s circumstances was quite another thing.
Reality was beckoning. With a soft sigh and a little slump of her shoulders she grudgingly lifted her toes from the refreshing water, and rose from the cool, soft earth. As she raised her slender arms up into the fresh morning air, she lifted her face to the glowing warmth of the sun. Her eyes closed, she stretched her body, soaking in as much peace from her sunrise adventure as she could capture. A gentle breeze floated over the meadow rustling the hem of her pink nightgown, whispering words as if in a dream, “Daughter, I love you. Be anxious for nothing. Rejoice, for I am with you always…” She opened her eyes. A rainbow reflected off the dew drops that glistened on the tips of the leaves. The peace flooded her whole being again. Renewed and encouraged, she turned and confidently strode back to her waiting family.
