It was a beautiful sunny day. My family and I were in a rush, mounting our bikes on our SUV, looking forward to a great bike ride. A family tradition was forming as we discovered our love for bike riding a few weeks before. Since my daughter had to spend an hour practicing gymnastics, the rest of the family will spend it together in our new hobby.
Little I did know what was about to happen just a few minutes later that day. Since we arrived a little bit late for her class, my daughter opened the door and readied herself to run through the parking lot that separated her from her favorite hobby.
I stopped her, “Wait, I’ll go with you!” We looked to both sides of the parking lot and saw nothing, not a single car, so we proceeded to cross to the other side. We had barely taken 2 or 3 steps when from the corner of my eye I saw what seemed impossible to me. A car was moving toward us from our left side. We were holding hands and for some reason neither of us let go of the other.
Being in a parking lot, it seemed reasonable to us that the driver of the car would slow down, but quite the contrary, he speeded up!
Since I was walking a little behind my daughter, she turned to me in horror and said nothing. Her eyes were wide open and she had a terrified look on her face (she was in front of the car). We knew we would never see each other again.
It seemed to me as if the scene was playing in slow motion, not having enough time to do anything for my daughter. A cry of terror escaped my lips, “NOOOO!!”
When I saw that the car would hit my daughter, I remember instinctually crying out to God in anguish. The car hit my daughter, who fell backwards. I knew the car would run over her and kill her. The tires of the car passed very close to my feet without hurting me.
It was at this moment that the most amazing thing happened: as the car hit my daughter and she backwards, we heard the sound of the tires screeching very loudly. It was then when suddenly the car stopped, completely, absolutely, in a fraction of second, it just stopped!
My husband came and asked the driver what was wrong with him. He also asked him for his driver’s license. I helped my daughter to stand up and took her out of the path of the car. She hadn’t broken anything! She had a bruise on her knee since the car hit her on her legs, but she was fine. She had just survived a face-to-face collision!
The firefighters and the police arrived just minutes after the driver of the car fled from the scene of the accident. He panicked because he was under the influence of drugs; that is why he stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brakes! It took a miracle from God to save the life of my daughter, nothing less.
Some people gathered around us to see if my daughter was fine. We received so much help from people who didn’t even know us: One of them called the police, other two people were the witnesses for the police report; another man followed the driver so he could be arrested. Even a girl came to my daughter and offered her some ice in a bag!
It is amazing being a child of God!!
Psalm 123:3-4 says: “He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep”.
I have so many reasons to praise the Lord, but this one is very close to my heart. How would my life be without my beloved daughter? What would I do without her company and comfort when I get sick or sad? She is my little doctor. She is my little friend, and I am indebted to my Father because He spared her life.
Glory be to Him who doesn’t deal with us according to our sins, but according to His great mercy!
The Lord used this fraction of a second to save the life of my daughter and gave my daughter and me a lifetime to praise His Holy name!
