There’s a temptation to depression
That is ever so sweet
It enfolds me and fills me
Like an insulating foam
Like impressions on a cushion
Whisper home
It’s familiar and deceptive
And just within my reach
This temptation to depression
Strangely comforting and sweet
Why this dance, why this flirtation
With an unforgiving ache?
Is the leaning all too easy
Grace and truth too hard to take?
God the Father stands beside me
And knowing He is there
Gives me courage to discard this cloak
Of darkness and despair
So I keep my childlike hand in His
And He’s everything I need
To dispel temptation to depression
However so sweet it may seem
