Today we celebrate the memory and the sacrifices of our Founding Fathers and rightly so. Of course the idea of liberty burned in many hearts prior to our country becoming as President Reagan called it, a "City set on a hill."
Martin Luther is known as the catalyst of the Reformation. As the catalyst he led many to a deeper faith in Christ. I admit to chaining the burning faith of Luther to the zeal of American Patriots in that both groups laid their life, liberty and sacred honor on the line in order to pursue the dream placed in their heart. Luther said:
"If we perish, then Christ the Almighty Ruler of the world himself must suffer with us. Even if this cause were to collapse, I would much rather be Ruined with Christ than rule with Caesar." Martin Luther.
My heart is moved by courage in the words of twenty one year old Nathan Hale as he was hanged; "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country."
Today ponder the unique freedom we have in America; religious and political liberty to exercise in the pursuit of happiness. People of understanding and courage will join with Luther and Hale believing perishing with Christ is better than ruling with godless Caesar.
Galatians 5:1 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
