The Matter of this Neglect
I write to call your attention to this serious matter of neglect. For no crime, you have sentenced Me to life on the shelf to gather dust. My leaves grow old for disuse. Whenever you reach for Me, I know it's trouble time. Then, you even have your favourite recipe, often used out of context.
It's no longer fashionable to take Me along on a journey. Sometimes when you do, throughout your stay I gasp for breath from under the bag.
However, to accommodate people like you, I become computerised and
miniaturised! You now have Me on your PC and mobile phones.
But you have become so accustomed to social networking sites and music that
you don't even remember that I am there.
Yes, I'm jealous also of your new found loves. You do well to have broken off your addiction to Romance, Detectives and Comics. Yet, I'm
disturbed by your infatuation with Francine Rivers, Karen
Kingsbury, Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, Lori Wick and the like. I tell you as good as they are, they are not a command, but I am.
So also, Our Daily Bread, Spurgeon's Daily Devotionals, Living Seed and other devotionals written by your pastors cannot take My place. They all are at best what humans say that I say.
However, worst is how you malign Me,
calling Me the letter that kills. Of this you are greatly mistaken! I am spirit and I am life (John 6:63). I am given by God's own inspiration (2 Timothy 3:16). By Me you cleanse your way and by Me you keep yourself from sin (Psalm 119:9,11). I am
written for your admonition (1 Cor 10:11), and that you may know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:13).
I am alive and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. I alone can separate what is of the soul from what is of the spirit (Hebrews 4:12). By Me you make your way prosperous and have good success (Joshua 1:8). Consider this for it is a matter of life and death.
