Hand In Hand (Isaiah 41:13)
“For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you’.”
This message is very specially from Abba’s heart to His kids who are going through uncertain or difficult times. If you have been crying out to God for help and wondering where He is, receive this as His answer to you. He has not overlooked or forgotten you. He knows what is going on in your life and is here to help you.
There are multiple places in the Bible where we see God telling us not to fear. This is because fear works against faith and robs us of our inheritance in the Lord. As everything we receive in the Kingdom is received in faith, the enemy always attempts to destroy our faith through all kinds of fear, even ones that may seem to be quite normal. Not only does fear ruin our faith, and expose us to the lies and weapons of the enemy, but it places us on shaky ground with God because “whatever is not from faith is sin” (Romans 14:23). However, our Father God is saying to us today that He will hold our right hand and help us to overcome!
Why did God specify holding our right hand? The right hand carried much significance in Bible times, and is still important in Eastern and Middle Eastern cultures. It was often symbolic of strength. It was the right hand of God which overcame Israel’s enemies (Exodus 15:6, 12, Isaiah 62:8, Psalm 17:7) and many of the psalms praise the right hand of God. (Psalm 98:1, 118:15, 16 to mention just a few). Scripture shows us that God was at the right hand of His chosen leader when assisting His people in battle (Isaiah 63:12, Psalm 109:31). The right hand is also symbolic of our work and purpose in life. It represents covenant, with people shaking their right hands to seal a contract, or entwining right hands while taking vows of marriage. In Middle Eastern and Asian societies, the right hand is used as a mark of honor, in greetings or giving and receiving.
When our Father God talks of taking our right hand, He is speaking of taking our whole life into His hands. You may be at a cross roads in your life, wondering which way to turn, but God is telling you today to lay it all in His hands. He says “Fear not, I will help you”. He is the fountain of life and the source of all wisdom. He is trustworthy! In Isaiah 41:10, He says “Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Dear friend, there are many people who have prayed the sinner’s prayer and invited Jesus into their hearts but have never given Him their right hand in covenant relationship, although they expect the power of His right hand on them when they are in trouble. The Lord is asking you to place your right hand in His, and abandon yourself to Him, laying everything that concerns you in His hands. And He promises to fill you with His strength and to help you to overcome every hindrance and to walk into all His precious plans and purposes for your life.
There are three things the Father is telling us to do here if we want to see victory and fruitfulness in our lives. Firstly He is saying “Fear not”. This means that we have to cast fear out of our lives. Fear is a spirit which seeks to affect all the aspects of our lives if we allow it to. Decide that no part of you will partner with fear any more. Command it to leave your body, spirit and soul, and affirm the Word of God upon your life. For example, 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that we have not received a spirit of fear but of love, boldness and a sound mind. This works even in many situations of physical infirmity such as heart palpitations and intestinal disorders.
Secondly, give yourself wholly to God. Place your right hand in His! James 4:7 says “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” When you say “No” to the devil and proclaim Jesus is Lord, when you place your life and will under His Lordship, the enemy has to leave! Our life in Jesus is a two way street. As we surrender our ‘all’ to Him, He gives us His ‘all’. We then can truly experience all the blessings and benefits of being joint heirs with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17).
Thirdly, know that God is on your side and He wants to help you. Perhaps you have not even asked God for help because you are not sure if He wants to help you in the issue you are facing. In Psalm 77:10, in the midst of a situation of turmoil and trouble, the psalmist writes “But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.” When we are going through rough times we need to do the same and remember all the things God has done – our history with God and how many times in the past He has come to our rescue or fixed the unfixable! His right hand is never far away and He says to us today “I will help you”!
Dear friend, whatever situation you have been going through, know that you are not alone. God is telling you today that 1) He is with you, and 2) He is coming to your rescue. 3) He wants to help you. 4) He has good plans for you because you are the love of His heart and His blood bought bride!
May the power of the Most High, the blessed Holy Spirit, rest upon you today as you place every aspect of your life into His mighty hands and break free of every fear. May His perfect love fill you, because “perfect love casts out all fear” and makes you a new person inside. You are a winner by the power of God. You are more than a conqueror in Jesus! Be whole, be healed, walk in the power of His peace, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
