Wow. Are we like the woman oppressed by a demon so that she was bent over and could not stand upright ? We must see the symbolism here !
This woman was oppressed by a demon to the extreme point to show how Satan works. In this case it was so severe that the woman was physically impaired so that she was bent over only allowing her to see the ground. This signifies one who cannot look into the heavens but has their eyes fixed and set instead upon the earth ! It would be extremely difficult for this person to look up into heaven as she would have to lie flat on the ground with legs up in the air, just to look up !
This shows us how Satan operates according to our natural heart in both it’s pleasure and enjoyment seeking as well as in it’s tendencies to worry and fret over things. The more we give into these things, the more our eyes are set towards the ground or the earth. This is why Jesus said to seek the kingdom foremost and not to worry or care for the things of the earth and to store up instead treasures in heaven. These earthly things are like weights which in time will bend you over double like this poor woman !
Be careful too of the religious people and leaders who would oppose this teaching which sets you free. Just as when Jesus released this woman from her bondage and oppression and the synagogue (church) official became indignant and scoffed and rebuked the Lord.
As Jesus did to this official, may He Himself rebuke those who oppose the truth even to this day, the things which gives men the freedom to look strait up into the heavens and to enjoy the kingdom !
