Sin is to commit an offense or fault against God; to break God's law.
Those guilty of sin are sinners.
Today we can see the heights of corruption and filth the world has come to. Peers and kin around us too might have fallen into the same worldly pit. I hope that you, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, have your eyes and ears opened to what the Lord desires from you.
According to John Calvin, not all can be saved and we are all in total depravity and thus salvation is 'Gods Sovereign Choice' backed by Romans9:15, 16.
Now you would wonder, "How then should I know that I was meant to be saved?" First of all the fact that you are a baptized Christian gives you the divine privilege of being a child of God.
The reason why I have emphasized on being a baptized Christian is because we are all born sinners unworthy of the gifts of God. David clearly states this Psalm 51:5.
The moment the person is baptized he is cleansed of his original sins and his soul becomes blameless and bought back from hell. That is why Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me..."
A child as a baptized Christian is free from original sin and unpolluted by the worldly sin thus becoming an image of Christ-a Christian.
But as the same child grows in this world he becomes polluted by all forms of sins that the world has to offer not knowing at what great cost his soul had been purchased from 'the enemy'.
In today's world refraining from alcohol, drugs, adultery and going regularly to church on Sundays makes you a saint in an onward journey towards heaven. But the fact is, these temptations of the devil are very easy to surpass. The more vile and vicious go unmentioned, uncared and unnoticed would like to mention a few vile sins that are not considered seriously either by the sinner or others around him.
Lust, usually referred to only in context with sex, actually means an intense desire to have anything the mind sees or seeks. Tech-savvy people who want to have every latest gadget in the market...lust! Movie-freaks who would spend loads of both time and money to get to the premiere show of the latest movie...again plain lust! People who would stop at nothing when it comes to earning money...lust spiced up with greed! Many more worldy cravings and desires could be brought under the roof of lust...and we all know that 'Lust' in any form is a great sin.
Suicides, a recent trend among the youth, has becomes so common as if it were a ticket to a nice long vacation to ease away all the stress. Suicide, taking away one's own life, is a grave and hell-deserving act that can find no grace as we do not have any rights either over our own body or soul though we are given free-will.
Cursing, use of foul language and sharp, hurting words, is also becoming a part of everyday talk. During driving, in our workplace, while playing, chatting almost all the time. James chap.3 clearly speaks about how we could destroy ourselves with the tongue.
Self-pity is an absolute selfish act and result of selfish thoughts that neither helps us nor others around us lead happy lives. Self-pity, a form of selfishness, becomes an obsession and we all know selfishness is not the way of the saint.
Lies and dishonesty.Ah...A little lie, now and then to save my skin.to please my kin, to clear my win. White lies, black lies, small lies and big lies, pardonable and unpardonable lies. All lies are lies! It is the native language of the devil as we have come to know it from Christ himself.
Sloth and laziness is well spread among young and old alike. Excuses, reasons and apologies for not completing tasks in time. Proverbs20:4 can be interpreted in this way-If we do not work diligently to be good during this period of grace we will not find heaven during God's season of 'Harvest'.
The most unattended stream-The media. Internet, television, music, mobiles. None of these are being used for the constructive purposes they were intended to be used for. The world is openly and freely committing sins under the branded and safe name of 'home entertainment'. Soaps, SITCOMS, pornography, mind-affecting movies and videos leading to suicides, rapes, murders.Social-networking, instant messaging, chatting dividing and destroying numerous families.
Music-trash, black, death and the newly added nonsense 'Gospel' metal and various forms of metal and hard-rock.
Usually SITCOMS, movies, pop, RnB are considered entertainment and people often say there is "no harm" in watching or listening to the above. But unfortunately we have failed to realize that here is where everything originates both in the mind and body. These so called "entertainers" too affect the way of a saint and keep us from being in union with God, his word and diligently seeking his grace.
So my dear readers, I hope I have enlightened you on the more unattended facts which hinder our way to heaven and union with our Lord. I hope you do what it takes to cleanse yourselves and remain unpolluted by the world so that we may be ready anytime for 'Harvest'.
Mat.7:13, 14 -"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it." There are many ways to sin. So many, that we might not even be aware we are in one. But that which keeps us afloat are very few, until now I have found Jesus and his Word to among them.
May God bless you in the days to come?
