As a mother must give birth or die, and then, having given birth, must go on to nurse her young or suffer, so the followers of Jesus must reproduce themselves and nourish those younger in their faith, or they will suffer and die inwardly (sometimes without knowing why it is happening, not making the causal connection).
The word of life that they speak, they themselves need to hear continually. They need to hear it as much as the ones to whom they speak. In fact it is better received when delivered in that awareness and in that attitude. That way, even when the message is rejected, it is received.
