Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!
Matthew 13:43 (NLT)
At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever and revealing them to the childlike”.
Matthew 11:25 (NLT)
Did you ever call computer Tech Support? First, they ask how they can help you, and then you tell them the problem. Then they start speaking and giving you instructions, you may recognize the language and the words they speak but have no idea what they are talking about. You may catch a few words here and there but the word “Duh” comes to mind. It feels like what a dog must go through when we are talking to him or her. They catch some words like, eat, out, walk, good, bad and may catch a few other words but mostly they lose the rest of our conversation.
There are things Jesus has told us that we don’t understand because he spoke in parables. God also does things for us constantly that we don’t always recognize. The Holy Spirit speaks to us but we don’t always hear. Jesus says, many think themselves wise and clever. At that time they were the self-proclaimed holy. They were the Pharisees. Jesus also called them the stiff necked. These people thought they knew it all and were quick to judge and pronounce sentence.
Jesus always loved the children. Jesus told us we should have child like faith. Children hear what people are saying without adding to what has been said. Children have pure hearts and for the most part not infected by the world yet. Jesus wants us to be like that. Jesus wants us to humble ourselves as children, ready to learn. Children are empty vessels waiting to be filled, as an adult sometimes we are already overflowing and not with the right stuff, unable or unwilling to take anything new in.
We need to empty ourselves and open the Bible, let’s see what God is telling us. We must listen as the Holy Spirit speaks to us. Listen to wise counsel. What we don’t understand we must ask. Come to God humbly with a pure heart which has been purified through Jesus. Read the Bible like it is the first time; listen with the ears of a child. Let preconceived notions slip away. God doesn’t like know it all and judgmental attitudes. We need to listen like a child. Will you join me as I pray for kid’s ears?
God Bless
