I am always reminded how the power of God and His leading impacts me and others. One example in my world of nursing which was my profession for 36 years, brings to mind how God leads us and shares the world with us through others. I was working my shift and about my usual duties of the day. As I working doing my usual activities and was in my patient's room in a critical care unit, the door opened and the family of my patient entered to visit their family member. In the group, there were three people. One of these people was a little girl who probably was 11 years of age. I do not remember her exact age, but I do remember the light in her eyes and what she was wearing. Factually, she has on a scrubs outfit and had a stethoscope around her neck. Most of all, I could feel her spirit and see the light she exuded. She tenderly and quietly shared with her family member as she went about doing simple things for her grandmother. I did not stop the little girl in her efforts to render loving care to her grandmother. She in no way was out of line, but she was a great healing force for her grandmother. I think perhaps she rendered greater healing power than I had in my skilled plan of care. This little girl not only impacted her grandmother, but she affected me and taught me that Godís light and power comes in many forms and that we as a complete unit have a part in healing. It not only is in the skill and art of nursing that healing occurs; it also is in Godís divine purpose and love in His care of His children.
I will never forget this little girl and her presence and her light. There are those moments in life when we forget that we are not in control, but we can notice what God is doing when we stop looking at life and others through a narrow lens.
I observed and encouraged this little girl. I was greatly blessed by meeting her, and it is my hope that she was encouraged by my small efforts to share with her time, and hopefully I set a good example for her in encouragement and her goal to become a nurse.©
