Knowing Who You are

Knowing who you are

Who you really are.

I have come to realize that we "the church" on a whole do not know who we really are, we do not understand completely the authority that we walk under. And I believe this is why we "the church" appear so ineffective today. This is why we do not see the miracles that other countries see, or that the apostles experienced.

It was about twelve years ago the first time I ever went through deliverance. I don't remember much about it because I literally passed out. I remember how I felt afterwards. It was like someone had lifted the weight of the world off my shoulders. I think I cried, sang, and praised the whole three hour drive home. Honestly though, I didn't know a thing about maintaining deliverance. I didn't know what sanctification meant. Was I delivered over night of temptation? No. I still had the same desires and temptations. I kept running across this verse about work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. I didn't understand it.

This last year when I hit my rock bottom. I cried out like never before. Lord I can't take anymore. I am tired of trying to do this all my way and getting no where. I can't take the pain anymore. And you know the first thing that popped into my mind... Frank Sinatra's Song "I did it my way". Gosh I hope he didn't. Have you ever thought about why you want control of your life so bad? Why you are so determined to say, "I did it my way". It's fear. That is the whole thing.. right in a nutshell. Fear. Fear of surrendering ourselves to others and where that might lead us. Fear of being hurt, rejected or abandoned. Fear. When that revelation hit me I really began searching.

During my search I ran across something that said, "Don't believe you're just an old forgiven sinner just because some pastor tells you so. Look these things up in the Word of God for yourself and know the truth. For Jesus said clearly that if we continue in His Word, we will know the truth and the truth will set us free!"

John 8:32, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
And here is the real kicker. My Grandma told me that same thing ALL my life. She would say to me that the bible was my plumb line. That everything I needed to stay balanced and on the straight and narrow is in there. Search for it. Pray for the Lord to show you, because the Word would never steer me wrong.

So let's get real here. The opposite of the truth is deception. And what is deception? In this case it is false beliefs. And what do false beliefs do? They cause you to live in bondage. Let me give you an example. If you think you are a failure, do you really think you will be able to walk in the authority that Christ has given us? If you still feel unworthy (after all that Jesus has done for you on the cross) are you walking in the authority? I realized I was spitting in my Lord and Saviors face every time I thought of myself in those negative ways. I was saying that His blood, His sacrifice was not enough to put my feet on that firm foundation. That it was not enough to boldly approach the throne of God. I was deceived.

Listen closely to what I say here. We were made worthy by the Blood of the Lamb. There is nothing on this earth we can do to be worthy except to be washed and cleansed in the Blood of the Lamb. Our worth comes from Him.

Romans 5:8, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

God loves us. It is an everlasting love. A FOREVER love. An unconditional love. It is the same love that He has for His only begotten son.

John 17:23, "I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me."

Jesus said that the greatest love is when you lay down your life for another. It's time we realize that was a great love that carried him through all those beatings. A great love that carried that cross up a hill. A great love that held him to that cross. And we better not disparage that anymore. This is not about self worth. It's not about your past, or where you came from. God wiped that all out on the cross. Don't you dare disparage that. That is true love.

John 15:13, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

You might wonder why I am stressing this point so much. It is because of this.... how can you be filled with the fullness of God if you don't understand the love of God? See.. this is what He showed me.

Ephesians 3:17-19, "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God."

This is the whole key... Christ has to dwell in your heart by faith. I like the word believe. You have to believe Jesus was, is, and is to come. That the very spirit that resided in Him, resides in you. Check out the next part. Grounded in Love. You have to know.. it has to be deep inside you. You have to understand that He paid a STEEP price for you. That the wages of sin are death and Jesus paid that price for you.

1 Corinthians 6:20, "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

I could go on and on here. But that should say it all. For those of you who were raised in the "Fire and Brimstone" background. Of a vengeful God. A God who loves to punish. And you have been beating yourselves up for years and trying to be perfect. STOP. Yes at times God has been a "Man of War". Yes at times nations have sinned and their have been consequences. Yes this list could go on and on. But God's true nature is LOVE. That not any should perish. He allows us to make choices. He doesn't force. He loves and waits patiently for us to turn to him. I want to close today with a few verses that the Lord put on my heart while I was dealing with all of this.

Romans 5:8, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Galatians 2:16, "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified."

Hebrews 9:14, "How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?"

Hebrews 10:17, "And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more."

Romans 5:17, "For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ."

2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

You have to know who you are in Christ. To know that He loves you. That you are His. That He would have died for just you. Meditate on this. Talk to Him about this. Ask Him to show you the truth in these words.
