How could I expect my grown daughter to understand why I kept her dusty diet coke can on my classroom shelf all those years after her visit? It gave me a sense of being connected, my best friend observed. Yes, feeling somehow CONNECTED, that was it! Though my daughter thought it strange, and my assistant too, and wondered why it hadn't been trashed (or at least recycled) long before.
Because our visits have been so few and far between I tend to treasure them feverishly with any artifact associated. Another friend kinda predicted I would do that, a friend whose children were around everyday, and who actually convinced me that I held the advantage.....but I suppose there are advantages hidden or otherwise in every condition in life.
