How rich I am in Christ Jesus my Lord as are all the saints to whom are given grace and peace from God the Father and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.
These blessings are spiritual in nature and come down from heavenly places where all good and perfect gifts come.
"Every good and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." James 1:17
The believer's election was in the mind of God before the world began so that we might be holy, set apart, and without blame. For only those without blame can escape the shame that results from sin. The Bible says we are so to live that we might not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
"And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming." 1 John 2:28
Where is the confidence of a proud deceived person? A proud person is confident in himself; his health, his wealth, his youth, his beauty, his intelligence.
Away with such self-confidence and self-flattery! As the Psalmist David cries out Psalm 12:1-4
1. "Help LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
2. They speak vanity every one with his neighbor: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
3. The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
4. Who have said, with our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?"
Mark now the vainity of those who speak against the truth with lies and flatery. What a deceitful work they do who speak so as to puff up their neighbor by swelling words of adulation and falsehood.
"He that flattereth his neighbor spreadeth a net for his feet." Proverbs 29:5
Those who commend others for the good they do not have flatter their neighbor and prepare a trap for them. Those who say to the sinner all is well with you and your sins are covered by the blood of Jesus do lay a snare for those who walk in the ways of the world and are on the road to hell.
Many a person has believed the blood of Christ covered their sins but because there was no repentance or turning from their sin they through self-deception or another person's flattery were encouraged to continue in their sinful rebellion and wicked pride unmindful that they were heading toward hell and not heaven.
Total destruction awaits the wicked who speak lies and flattery with their mouths. A faithful man will tell the truth even when it costs him his job or worldly possessions. A righteous or faithful man will love his neighbor and speak the truth in love because "faith works by love."
Yesterday a Christian acquaintance asked me "If you were planning to get together with another brother in the Lord for fellowship, what do you tell him when he asks, do you drink?"
I responded by saying, "Tell him you don't drink."
The truth always wins and sets us free doesn't it?
If we are practicing sin then we are not of God and will be ashamed when the Lord returns. Be not deceived. He that is of God keeps God's commandments. He who says He knows God but does not keep His commandments is a liar and Jesus Christ does not dwell in him.
Can two walk together except they be agreed? Neither can a liar walk with God who is true.
The Lord will cut off such as flatter and lie with their lips in violation of the ninth commandment. A powerful ruler in Egypt, the Pharoah, once said before Moses, "Who is the LORD, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go?"
Oh, the ignorance of proud and haughty men who are children of wrath and do worship the Devil and idols. These persons will not long endure but will someday answer to their Creator who will judge them for every idle word spoken. They will give an account to God.
Believers serve a gracious God and they tell the truth and so honor their God.
We were chosen by sovereign love and not because of anything good in us. This predetermined plan by God was that we might be adopted as children into the Kingdom of God according to God's good pleasure which He works after His own will.
God's glorious grace enables us to praise our Creator for His acceptance of us in Jesus Christ the beloved Son of God.
It is by Jesus Christ's blood that we are purchased out of our bondage to sin and Satan and hereby we obtain forgiveness of our sins according to God's rich grace.
Let none who profess faith in Jesus Christ be guilty of flatering lips but let us speak the truth in love and so fulfil the will of our Lord Jesus Christ.
