Mark 12:30-31 and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength; this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Luke 6:35 but love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest.
Romans 12:9-10 let love be without dissimulation. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.
Love is one way; either we love or we donít. Any love outside of the perimeter of God is not love at all. How can we love God and the Devil too? It canít be done; itís impossible. How can a woman love a man when she is in love with someone else? A woman divorced and married again but did not love the man she married; she was in love with the husband she divorced. There is no such thing as love on the rebound. Although she had not seen her husband for twenty months she held on to the love they shared and she was so in love with him she was willing to wait even longer. Many saw her alone and but she was not lonely. She was fulfilled in the fact that he would come home one day. This woman loved God and would not again hurt his heart by sinning against Him or her husband. She waited and waited and kept her vows. How proud she was of her commitment. Her heart although married to another still ponders on the previous one. How can we go on trying to love outside of Godís will? It will never work. Now she vows to go on without either and just stay with God.
How can we say we love God and love sin too? It doesnít work. Either we will love one or the other but not both. The love of God constrains us; it kills the compulsions and coercions to sin. It kills the pressure and forces that comes to make us sin. It keeps us out of the captivity sin puts us in. The love of God restricts the Devil entrance into our minds. When we love like God says we find ourselves in the arena of safety. God loves us in spite of; He doesnít love just because we do something for someone. God has always done for man; He has always loved His Creation and made beings (mankind, man or woman, male or female).
The love of God makes us trust God even in trouble. His love makes us praise Him any way when our world is crashing around us. His love brings us through, gives us deliverance and causes us to forgive even when we donít want to. Godís glory is magnified by His Word and love. Godís love executes judgment (for it was better if we hung a millstone around our neck rather than hurt one of Godís children). Not only do we praise God for His love for us but we must have a love for all that He loves; His Creation. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings we are to ordain strength to love; even loving our enemies.
Consider the heavens and how mindful God is of us, that when we visit the fact that He sent His Son to redeem us. We should love Him the more. Because He loves us He provides all of our need and gives us most of our wants. Even when we mess up God loves us unconditionally. Now God forgives, forgets and continue to bless. Love is more than an emotion or sentiment. Many say they love God but have allowed that love to wax cold. Man seeks love through pleasure but love is more than that. Love is more than being excited about something or someone. We can be stimulated in our flesh but thatís not Godís love. Excitement can be provoked, stimulated, inflamed, aroused, stirred, or incited in the flesh but is it of God? Excitement brings about emotions God didnít ordain. This kind of love is fleeting. It brings about disturbances, tumult, turmoil, agitation, stimulation and commotion we donít need. We will wonder what the fuss is about. There is no true love there.
God is waiting on us to expect to love like He loves. Godís love is remarkable, excellent and can be expected to hurt. We overindulge in things to the excess where itís not God we are loving but waste and greed. God has no part in excessiveness but a God of need for man to love and appreciate having their daily need met. God honor faithfulness in the love we offer. He wants us to be faithful servants; this is love. When we walk in Godís love we are to be wise; for wise servants love the lost to Christ. Love keeps us honest, truthful, and pure in heart. When we love like God expects we donít mind making sacrifices. We hold our principles, and know who we are in him.
Love is also a feeling of pleasurable attraction toward or delight; in something as a principle, a person, or a thing, which induces a desire for the presence, possession, well-being, or promotion of its object. Love covers a multitude of fault; it has no ill will. We are to love not the world or the things in the world. Love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave and many water canít quench love neither the floods drown it. We want our work of faith and labor of love to be remembered. God will grant us according to the riches of his glory to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man. We want God to dwell in our hearts by faith that Christ will dwell, being rooted and grounded in love.
Let us love one another; for love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and know God. If God so loves us we ought also to love one another. If we love one another, God dwells in us and his love is perfected in us. If a man says, I love God, and hate his brother he is a liar; for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
We must pray that Godís love abound in us more and more in knowledge and in all judgment. Itís Godís Will that we love like Him.
