“But immediately after the tribulation of those days, then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.” (Matthew 24:29, 30).
In these verses the Lord Himself describes in more detail when the Ancient of days will arrive. There are those who believe that there will be no signs, preceding Christ’s return, but we will focus on what Jesus said. Matthew 24 gives us a detailed account about those things that will take place before He arrives. Paul the Apostle in II Thessalonians Chapter 2: 3, states that two events will take place prior to the coming of Christ. First a great falling away form truth and second the appearing of the Man of sin (The fourth beast mentioned in Daniel chapter seven.).
The next major portion of scripture that gives more detail about the Lord’s coming is the book of Revelation. Revelation opens with the announcement of Christ’s return. (Revelation 1;7) For the faithful it is a word of encouragement and hope, for those who have chose to reject Him it will be a time of great sorrow.
Revelation begins with an address to seven churches, not yet ready for the wedding that will occur in Revelation Chapter 19, 20. It is this writer’s viewpoint that the events between chapters 3 -18 are events meant to purify the church and prepare her for the arrival of the Bridegroom. In chapter 19, the enemies of our lord are destroyed first, Satan is bound, and in chapter 20, the wedding now occurs, called “the First Resurrection’.(Verse 4)
