The topic of homosexuality seems to be a very polarizing subject. It has always been a hot topic, but with President Obama coming out for gay marriage it is getting much more attention. For most Christians there may be a tendency to shy away from any discussion that has to do with this topic because it often turns heated. This should not be so. Instead Christians need to educate themselves so they can intelligently defend their positions.
As followers of Christ we are told to expect persecution. So just because others may not agree with us is not a good reason to be silent. We are ambassadors of Christ, which means we should act like him, think like him, and be willing to stand for what he stood for. I have heard numerous attempts to show how God is not against homosexuality. These attempts are weak and absurd. With just a casual read of the Bible it is clear that God is against homosexuality, and that has never changed. It is not an alternative life style; it is a direct sin against God. As Christians we are commanded to speak out against such things.
To accept homosexuality as okay is to be willing to accept adultery, pornography, alcohol, etc. No one would stand up and say that others need to accept my life of watching pornography. And I should be able to watch it where ever, and whenever I want. This would cause outrage, but if we don’t take a stand now, that could be our future.
The Bible tells us to do everything in Love and that the people of God perish because of a lack of knowledge. The fact is, ignorance breeds hate. As Christians we need to learn the facts and be able to express our beliefs. If we do this, then their beef is no longer with us, but with God. That is the beauty of having the truth on your side.
