For Wednesday, 16 May 2012: posted by me on my daily devotion blog www.dailymedit.blogspot.com)

1Sa 30:8: And David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I pursue after this band? Shall I overtake them?" He answered him, "Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue."

The events that led up to this verse were not palatable for David and his men who returned from the battlefield to find their families and possessions gone. These men wailed and David was nearly stoned. The situation was difficult and seemingly insurmountable, but there is another reality, which is that of the future, and the specific actions to take which David would get by revelation from God.

Remember David initiated the conversation with God meaning he had not resigned to the situation but rather than acted panicky, he sought God. His eventual action was not as a panic reaction in the situation, no matter how difficult it was, but as a result of a firm grip on the will and the word of God. David discovered the will of God was for him is to prosper him in that situation. Do you believe that it the same for you? How do you act in the seeming contradiction between the reality you see and the will of God to prosper you?

Do what David did in his own contradiction; don't panic even though all your nerves are screaming out that you should give up on God. Do what David did; he leaned on God for direction. When you don't know where to go ask God to shed his light on your path and the miracle will be greater than you can anticipate. The disappointment that David met was trumped by the greatness of the spoil he got from the enemy. He not only had all that was lost restored back to him according to the word of God (vs18-20), but beyond that he acquired the goods of the enemy that he eventually sent to others (vs. 26).

In contradictions, it should be our instinct to inquire from God rather than press the panic button, you will realise eventually that the difficult situation was a set up for a major breakthrough in your life. That is the way of God. If you don't believe me, ask Job.

Prayer activity: Lord in contradiction, help me to refrain from complaining but open my eyes to your direction.
