“Then Joshua said to the children of Israel: ‘How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?’” (Joshua 18:3)
God has a glorious inheritance prepared for us in Heaven, and we can begin to take hold of it now in this life. The inheritance He has for us includes the hidden riches in secret places which He talks about through the prophet Isaiah: the lost souls whom we will have the opportunity to influence for His honor and glory.
On the other side of eternity, we will experience the beauty of the Heavenly place—but more important, we will be in the glorious presence of our Almighty King. And the glory of His presence and the beauty of the place will be magnified by the multitudes that surround Him and give Him glory. So what better way is there to spend this life than to invite people to spend eternity with us glorifying God in Heaven?
The Word of God says: “Set your mind on things above, not on things of the earth” (Colossians 3:2). When we focus on things above, we are focused on Him. And when we are focused on Him, we will know His heart. His heart is that His name be glorified through multitudes both in this life and in the life to come. His heart is for us to build our Heavenly inheritance—to build His Kingdom with Spirit and Truth worshippers.
Joshua asked the people of Israel why they were neglecting to take possession of their inheritance from God. God is asking us the same question. Why are we neglecting to take possession of that which He has already attained for us? HE has paid the price for the lost to be saved. HE has made salvation available to those who would receive it. He has said that the harvest is plentiful. And He has “not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). In short, He has given us everything we need to bring people to know Him. So why do we hesitate?
Paul said that the lost who came to the Lord through his ministry were his joy and crown. We can rejoice in the same way as Paul with each lost soul who surrenders to God and lives to give Him glory. These lost souls are the ultimate inheritance. They are the true treasures of this life, and they’re waiting in the darkness to be found and brought in to His glorious light. So why are we waiting? Let us go and take hold of the inheritance He has for us.
