Let me speak of death
So that you might know
the full extent of its power
murder is the death of a body
But it is not the only form
That death takes in our grey world
a lie is truth hung out to die
lust is love tortured until only a breath remains
and when love is raped without thought
then beware for leaving behind only an empty cage
an affair breaks the veil of a marriage, sometimes two
it is the scorpion placed to lie in wait while all sleep calmly by
theft is the endless slaughter of trust and ownership
pornography is the poisoning of purity
and the endless burying of modesty
jealousy and envy, two sisters common to us all
is the smothering of contentment
and when neither she nor her sister thankfulness resides inside
it is due to the seductive hand of greed
swearing and other foul language
is the death of the authenticity of words
and an idol, perhaps the worst of all
is an attempt to assassinate the God of Heaven
This is death
Beware each choice you make
For now you see how easily
It is to yield to death
It is so easy to eat meals with him
Give gifts to him
Sing praises to him
Or even sit in church within
Without even realizing the apparent danger
It is no mere cliché, no foolish comment to be forgotten
To see each choice
As leading to life
Or death.
