Suppose Salvation Were For Sale

Suppose salvation were for sale

then you and I could never avail

to move by force and create the gale

to thrust your ship through endless sail;

for tidal waves would surely break

and ne'er our arms would vict'ry make.

Suppose salvation were for sale

could mortal men make haste who so frail?

and we in a race were like a snail

too slow to run, too weak, too pale.

If speed require a swifter pace

then who could run a solemn race?

This is really lovely. It definitely makes me stop and think. Christ paid dearly for our sins, but all he asks in return is for us to let him into our hearts. For once he is in, all kinds of wonderful things happen.
