I recently spoke in a revival meeting in Bellefonte, Pa. It was a challenge for me as I have never spoken for an hour. I was quite intimidated as I have two years of online Bible College compared to three other seminary taught preachers. All four of our messages blended on the topic of revival in America. We all spoke on the United States of America turning back to the Christian nation we were founded as and letting God have His rightful place in America.
Several references were made throughout the day of the founding fathers creating a nation with the purpose of worshipping God openly and freely. They had a dream the American Dream, freedom to worship God. To see this dream through they took a stand that they would not fear what men could do to them. In this instance the worlds strongest army from England. They had a dream and they were going to see it through.
A church Bible study we recently had gave a few insights as to what a lot of Christian college students believe is the American Dream. That dream is so distorted from reality of the true dream our founding fathers had it almost left the creator out. A college student there told us of how the general consensus of students were a bit askew-ed. The feeling in general is that their lives through education will be as follows. They will receive a great high paying job.
They will have a luxury car.
They will buy a big house.
They will have 2.5 children.
They will have this because God wants them to prosper in their lives. Every now and then they will attend a local church and even give a few bucks in the collection plates. Ah, they have come to the American Dream.
Never mind the blood shed to create this land. Never mind those living in poverty at an all time high. Never mind per capita church attendance at an all time low. Never mind pulpit preachers preaching what people want to hear on prosperity and not what "Thus saith the LORD."
The American Dream, to live free to worship God. This is quoted by all the founding fathers in our country. Patrick Henry said," It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this country was founded not by religion but by Christianity not by religionists but by the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
Several books were written on the founding fathers. They all the faith these men had in God that this could be a nation with freedom to worship God openly and freely. They were all of one accord in the desires of their hearts that America was the land of freedom to worship the true holy, sovereign God. The American Dream to live and freely praise God from town to town, state to state. The American Dream that God was the centerpiece of the nation, in our churches, schools and in our government.
The true American Dream, worshipping and praising God, openly and freely.
