II Peter Part 1

1 of 2

2 Peter 1:1 “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:”
2 Peter 1:2 “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,”
Simon (Strong’s 4613) Simon (i.e. Shimon); (Hebrew Strong’s 8095) hearing
Peter (Strong’s 4074) a (piece of) rock; Petrus, an apostle.

We are beginning the second Book of Peter here. The name Peter meaning a piece of rock of that Rock Christ. His real name, Simon meaning hearing in the Hebrew language. Peter one of the twelve apostles, meaning those sent forth ones to bring forward the Word of God of Jesus who actually lived with Him. The audience of the book is the same as the first Book of Peter, to those of the nation of Israel scattered abroad and out into the nations of the world. The only way we receive righteousness is that our sins are righted by the blood of the lamb of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Through His effort and His love and mercy, we have that opportunity to ask Heavenly Father in the Name of Jesus to forgive our sins. That faith is so very precious to those that do have eyes to see and ears to hear His truth. So put asides men’s traditions and religion of this world and let your mind be absorbed in His Word. Like here His Word tells us to put that Word before us as our eye salve or to sooth our eyes:

Revelation 3:14 “And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; ‘These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the beginning of the creation of God;”
Revelation 3:15 “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would wert cold or hot.”
Revelation 3:16 “So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of My mouth.”
Revelation 3:17 “Because thou sayest, “I am rich, and increased in goods, and have need of nothing;” and knowest, not that art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:”
Revelation 3:18 “I counsel thee to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.”
Revelation 3:19 “As many I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”
Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me.”
Revelation 3:21 “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne.”
Revelation 3:22 “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.’”

Here Jesus looked at seven churches in the world at the time of the writing of the book of Revelation. He approved only two out of the seven, Smyrna and Philadelphia, as they taught who the Kenites, or sons of Cain who are of the synagogue of Satan who say they are Jews as well as the key of David, that Jesus did come through Jesse, David, then through Nathan as in Luke Chapter 3. Only these two churches Jesus approved by what they teach, not by their names. Now here Jesus is looking at the Laodiceans and we don’t see such a good report. This is the church that is a free for all, they never have any controversy in their church. They accept all ideas about religion and are always “politically correct” as we say today. Jesus says they are so flaky or flimsy as they don’t really stand up for anything! He says He will spit them out of His mouth because they are just lukewarm! They are a very wealthy organization and may look powerful and very large in the world’s standards, but Jesus states that they are blind and naked of the Truth of God’s Word! They do not teach with discipline, rather teaching their church traditions and men’s traditions. Jesus then says for them to go and take the gold tried in fire, meaning The Word of God, so they really then can be spiritually rich and put on white raiment, meaning the white, fine linen clothing made up of righteous actions as in Revelation 19:8. Then to cover up that nakedness, being void of teaching and knowing God’s Word by going to it! HE then tells them to anoint their eyes with eye salve, that Word of God that soothes not only our physical eyes, but our souls filling up with the healthy food of God’s Word that we are starving for as well as their congregation that want to hear it! He then states to repent and steer clear of these men’s traditions and church doctrines and stick to the simplicity of His Word, that fine gold and that eye salve that soothes our lives. As long as we keep mixing men’s traditions and religion with God’s Word we will never get it! Remember in II Thessalonians 2:10-11 God, Himself, will be send strong delusion to you if you want to hear lies, because if you knowingly worshipped Satan, which men’s traditions will inevitably will lead you to when he comes before Jesus, you then would be held responsible. The only way we can overcome this flesh life is to sup with Him, meaning through God’s Word. Learn it and eat it up, really getting into it and trying to see the deeper message there God has for you. God wants people that can stand up for His Word, not be swayed this way or that way, but solid people! As here Jesus teaches:

Luke 7:24 “And when the messengers of John were departed, He began to speak unto the people concerning John, “What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?”
Luke 7:25 “But what ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.”
Luke 7:26 “But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.”
Luke 7:27 “This is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send My messenger before Thy face, which shall prepare Thy way before Thee.’”
Luke 7:28 “For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
Luke 7:29 “And all the people that heard Him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.”
Luke 7:30 “But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.”

Jesus sent out these people to see what was going on out in the desert. Jesus asks them what do they thought they would see? Someone that would say something and be politically correct pleasing the entire crowd? A reed shaking in the wind has no backbone or does not stand up for what they believe in. They want to be pleasing to everyone! This is not what God’s Word is about, but it is to stand up for what it states period! That’s it! Then He states did you think you would see some rich well dressed man looking very religious in the robes and pomp that you see in kings’ courts? Of course not! Just like we saw with that church that Jesus wanted to spit out what they teach as they do this we see this today in one of the major churches today in the world! Know God’s Word so you can check this out for yourself seeing if the teaching is based on men’s traditions or the Word of God. Then Jesus gives John the very best credentials as there was no greater prophet in the flesh, other than the Lord Jesus, Himself. Then the people including the publicans, or the tax collectors and government workers understood and had eyes to see and ears to hear the Word of God coming out of Jesus’s mouth. Then we have the Kenites or sons of Cain, remember in Genesis 3:15, the serpent’s seed, or offspring. They are right there, those scripture lawyers always twisting God’s Word and using it to fit in with their own man-made religion, as the Pharisees, who believe in eternal life. So as here we see this way back in the Garden of Eden:

Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed; It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.”
seed (Strong’s 2233) seed, figuratively fruit, plant, sowing-time, posterity, child, (from Strong’s 2232) to sow, to disseminate, plant, fructify, bear, conceive seed, set with, sow or yield.

That seed, or children, of the serpent, who is Satan as Revelation 12:9 and 20:2 states there is a war or enmity going on between them and God’s children. Those same sons of Cain, the Pharisees, these lawyers here, and the Sadducees that yelled crucify Him by their hand Jesus’s heel was bruised when He was brutally crucified and beaten for our sins just as God had told us hundreds of years before in Psalms 22, the scripture Jesus is quoting on the cross. So here in Luke 7:27 Jesus is quoting from:

Malachi 3:1 “Behold, I will send My messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me: and the Lord, Whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to His temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, He shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.”

That messenger, John, who is Jesus’ cousin as in Luke 1, is the messenger, the prophet send before Jesus sent to teach baptism and to repent as the kingdom of God was at hand, and He came in the flesh as Son of Man, Jesus Christ. John then preparing the way for the people that this would go down exactly as God’s Word had foretold us way back in Malachi. We need the entire Word of God, not just the New Testament or parts of it, as Jesus is constantly quoting from the Old Testament and fulfilling. How would we know that prophesy has happened if we did not read about it beforehand? Do not let any person, church, religion or church doctrines rob you from the precious truth of God’s Word teaching that you don’t need to understand, for example, the book of Revelation, as you’ll be out of here or “fly away” when God is against this here:

Ezekiel 13:18 “And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the [women] that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive [that come] unto you?”
Ezekiel 13:19 “And will ye pollute Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to My people that hear [your] lies?”
Ezekiel 13:20 “Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I [am] against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make [them] fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, [even] the souls that ye hunt to make [them] fly.”

Those churches as we just read that cover up the truth at the stature, or at the very top of their church or religion, and cover the arms of the people that are reaching upwards to God, God is against them! They hunt down souls, not people, but their very souls and God does NOT like this! They pollute His Word for the money! That’s why this church of the Laodiceans we just read in Revelation 3 the Lord wants to spit out what they teach as they don’t stand up for anything! They are politically correct, never wanting to offend anyone. They get very rich this way, saying what people want to hear, or are in it for the money. By doing this they are sacrificing the souls of their church members to teach their men’s traditions or lies. They want to grow their numbers, are very popular as that way their people don’t really have to understand God’s Word, just follow their rules and regulations and that’s it, their saved! According to God’s Word He is against this! They are in it for the money. They cover up the people’s eyes from the truth of God’s Word by not being controversial and teaching these lies like “you don’t need to understand God’s Word - you’ll fly away!” He is against this and does not like it! Be standing on that Rock Which is Christ, His name is the Word of God as in Revelation 19:13 so you are not deceived. Now let’s go on:

2 Peter 1:3 “According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”
2 Peter 1:4 “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

It is always through The Holy Spirit, or God’s divine power, that we do then have understanding. However, we have to do our homework and take the time to understand His Word. His Word is how we are called to glory, as when we are learning we are in His glory, feeling the joy and the confidence that the Holy Spirit brings us and we are at peace. The virtue of the Word are the many precious promises that Word is filled with. We have to crack that Bible open, though, and do the work so we can enjoy them. This way if we are focus on Him, not this world we are kept from the lusts of this world that pull our attention away for why we are here, that is to serve Him. So here:

Isaiah 43:26 “Put Me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.”

He is saying put Him, His Word, in remembrance, or really know it. Then that way you can go to Him with confidence, saying the Word says here that this promise is here, showing God by your action, that you know the Word. He wants you to recognize Him that He is there to help you, through His Holy Spirit, so you can love Him by serving Him. Helping our fellow friends, family and people that He puts into our lives. Never imposing His Word on anyone, but let Him plant those seeds of the truth of His Word through you. Then let’s go here:

Romans 8:18 “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
Romans 8:19 “For the earnest expectation of the creature waileth for the manifestation of the sons of God.”
Romans 8:20 “For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of Him Who hath subjected the same in hope.”
Romans 8:21 “Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.”
Romans 8:22 “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travailed in pain together until now.”
Romans 8:23 “And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.”
creature (Strong’s 2937) original formation; building, creation, creature, ordinance.

Then we see that what we see today in this flesh age is nothing like the beautiful glory we will see in all of us when we get into those spiritual bodies and the earth is then rejuvenated at His return. So even the creation, the word “creature” here better translated creation, is wailing for His return. When the sons of God, or the angels, man in the spiritual body. Even the creation will be delivered from this flesh life, which is corruptible, meaning liable to perish at one time. Just as a plant it has its life and then fades away, so do our flesh bodies at the end of our lives. So very nature is groaning for the Lord to return to that dimension, or the spiritual bodies we will be in at the Lord’s Day. Then the firstfruits of the Spirit, meaning the election or those that withstood Satan in the first earth age and did not worship him as in I Kings 19:18, we groan within ourselves for that time to come. We are going through this flesh life as it is temporary, not our permanent home to come. Then as here at the Lord’s Day which is that one thousand year period which takes place after this earth age ends:

II Peter 3:8 “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the LORD as a thousand years, and a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
II Peter 3:9 “The LORD is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
II Peter 3:10 “But the day of the LORD will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
elements (Strong’s 4747) something orderly in arrangement, i.e. a serial (basal or used for teaching beginners, fundamental, initial) constituent or one who authorizes to act as an agent, initial); rudiment or beginning, unformed or developed; (from base of Strong’s 4748) to march in (military) rank (keep step), i.e. to conform to virtue and piety, walk (orderly).
melt (Strong’s 3089) to loosen, break up, destroy, dissolve, loose, melt, put off.

So that next age, the Lord’s Day, which begins when Jesus returns to this earth setting up His kingdom on earth as in Zechariah 14:4 His feet standing at the Mount of Olives at His rightful seat on earth. God has married permanently Jerusalem His throne eternal forever as His favorite spot in the universe. We will not “fly away” anywhere, but be standing up here with Him on earth. The Lord is very, very patient, or longsuffering for He knows as it states in His Word as in Revelation 20:8 the majority of people living today will be deceived by Satan and will not overcome in the flesh. That’s why we have the one thousand years or Lord’s Day where discipline of God’s Word will be taught and many will have corruptible souls, or liable to perish or be fully destroyed souls as in Revelation 20:5. His goal is that all come to repentance, but as we read in Revelation 20 many will not. Then the Lord’s Day will be by surprise, or as a thief in the night for the majority living today. Then the heaven and the earth, the flesh age ends, beginning the next age, or the Lord’s Day. Then the elements, or rudiments and basal things of this world melt off. So any churches, religions anything not grounded on God’s Word is melted off and all the things that are not in line, or marching in line with the Word of God is melted off. This is not the eternity, as that comes after the Lord’s Day, as God wants people He can trust those that listen to His Word, as the majority of this world will be deceived by Satan who comes before Jesus in the flesh as here:

Revelation 12:7 “And there was war in heaven:  Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,”
Revelation 12:8 “And prevailed not, neither was their place found any more in heaven.”
Revelation 12:9 “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Satan and the fallen angels are locked in chains today in heaven. God will use them to test the majority of this world who have not read God’s Word with understanding. So right before the second advent, Satan and those fallen angels which did not keep their place in heaven and came and took wives of Adam’s daughters as in Genesis 6:1-4, will come to deceive anyone who wants to believe them. Then we see that old serpent of Genesis 3:15, Satan, just one of his many names or roles. His evil spirit as well as the fallen angels comes to earth constantly just as The Holy Spirit of God. It’s up to you if you want to listen to him. Then let‘s go on:

2 Peter 1:5 “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;”
2 Peter 1:6 “And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;”
2 Peter 1:7 “And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.”
2 Peter 1:8 “For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The more we get into knowing God’s Word the more we grow. So when we diligent learn our faith grows and we become virtuous by the Word of God that is put into our minds, taking over the place of flesh thoughts and ideas. And then we have more knowledge of what God wants us to do, and then temperance, or self-control, as we are not answering to our flesh man. The spiritual person inside of us takes over. Then from there we are more patient with ourselves and with others. Then godliness, meaning we are not little gods, but more as Heavenly Father for we are attempting, knowing that we will sin at one time or another, to do His will, not our own. Then naturally we are more patient and loving to our fellow man and loving. So all of this is taking place in you, your works or what you God has you do in your life, like raising a family, or helping in the community at an animal shelter, or lifting up someone that is having a bad day with the promises of God’s Word, you are very fruitful. Your life is not empty and not barren. The Holy Spirit of God is living within you as you are reading His Word with understanding and you are walking with Him. Now let’s go here to Matthew 24, the subject is the return of Jesus, or second advent, and the end of this flesh age, here:

Matthew 24:1 “And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and His disciples came to Him for to shew Him the buildings of the temple.”
Matthew 24:2 “And Jesus said unto them, “See ye not all these things? Verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”
Matthew 24:3 “And as He sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when shall these things be and what shall be the sign of Thy coming and of the end of the world?”
world (Strong’s 165) properly an age; by extension perpetuity (also past); by implication the world; specifically (Jewish) A Messianic period (present or future).

Jesus warns not one stone will be left standing at His return as we just read when Jesus returns all those basal elements or rudiments will be destroyed, and Satan will have set up his temple as in II Thessalonians 2:3-4 in Jerusalem claiming to be God. Take note world means the world age, not the world itself as it is will not be destroyed, but rejuvenated or cleansed out and this is then the net Messianic period. Then going on here:

Matthew 24:5 “For many shall come in My name, saying, ‘I am Christ;’ and shall deceive many.”
Matthew 24:40 “Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.”
Matthew 24:41 “Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.”
Matthew 24:42 “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”
Matthew 24:43 “But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.”
Matthew 24:44 “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
Matthew 24:45 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?”
Matthew 24:46 “Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.”
Matthew 24:47 “Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.”
Matthew 24:48 “But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, “My lord delayeth his coming”;”
Matthew 24:49 “And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;”
Matthew 24:50 “The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,”
Matthew 24:51 “And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Right off, the first thing, that Jesus warns many will come in His name meaning Christians. He then says to not believe them! This is how Satan does work and will work through church and religion in the religious seat. Just as we read that church in Revelation 3 that were politically correct Jesus wanted to spit them out of His mouth as they did not stand up for anything! They changed their views according to the world’s climate, not based on what God’s Word says. So many different churches we know today in America changing their rules and regulations not wanting to offend anyone, accepting members they may not have in the past based on race or creed, and also changing their habits they put on people like covering the head. These are men’s imposed traditions, not the Word of God. Then going on here two will be in the field, meaning working and planting His seeds, or teaching the Word of God. The first one is taken by antichrist or Satan, who will come first instead of Christ. Then also two women working and grinding at the mill. Again, harvesting the people that they have been teaching, but the one is taken by Satan, or son of perdition, the only son in God’s Word sentenced to perish of II Thessalonians 2:3-4. Then Jesus states to watch for all the signs and events listed here in Matthew 24, and also in Mark 13 and Luke 21, all having the same topic, His return and end of this world age. So if we are watching for the thief, Satan, and we know the watch, or the time he comes in is right before Jesus. That house, meaning God’s people or even the congregation, some would not be taken by antichrist for they all would have been taught God’s Word with understanding that there are two tribulations. This is rarely taught nor God’s Word chapter by chapter and verse by verse, going to the original languages so we can understand His Word in depth and not be deceived. The meat that we need in that season is His very Word of God. Especially these three chapters, again Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21, that meat of the Truth of His Word. Not the milk that many churches teach over and over to their older church members in order to get many more people in and thus make more profit for their own financial gain, like salvation. “All you have to do is be saved - that’s it!” Or this, “You don’t need to understand the Word of God as you’ll fly away.”! When we just read God is against these false teachers that lazily and greedily teach this! Why? They are robbing the very souls of so many people who are looking to the churches and to religion for their direction. That’s why today many, many people will stay away from established churches as they do not teach God’s Word with discipline showing their members how to learn for themselves, rather than having them rely on what their church leaders or hierarchy believe. Do not rely on man, Rely on God and His Word as each one of us as individuals will be sitting before God by ourselves, not with our priest, rabbi, preacher, reverend, bishop, imam, or religious leader for judgment as in Revelation 20:11-15! Be that faithful and wise servant as in Matthew 24:44-45, knowing that hour Jesus comes is right after Satan has his five month reign on earth as in Revelation 9:5 and 9:10. Be blessed and continuing teaching God’s Word and planting seeds of truth of His Word until the return of the Lord Jesus Who comes after Satan, or antichrist, meaning instead of Christ in Greek. Know that God’s Word will go down as written, never saying Jesus is delaying His return. Be confident in the Word, not wishy-washy or flaky as these churches that are popular or teach to be open or politically correct accepting all beliefs not basing their doctrine on the Word of God. Many will think they have it made on earth, they will be partying and eating and drinking. Satan as instead of Christ as here:

I John 2:18 “Little children it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.”
I John 2:19 “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.”
I John 2:20 “But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.”
I John 2:21 “I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.”
I John 2:22 “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.”
antichrist (Strong’s 500) an opponent of the Messiah; (from Strong’s 473) opposite, i.e. instead or because of , and (from Strong’s 5547) anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet or descriptive word, of Jesus Christ; (from Strong’s 5548) to smear or rub with oil, i.e. (by implication) to consecrate to an office or religious service, anoint.

We are in the last time, or the last days of this generation of the fig tree. Antichrist, meaning instead of or in His place, Satan, will come at the last time before Jesus. Way back at this time many were teaching instead of Christ, or mixing men’s traditions and religion with God’s Word. Many major world religions such as Islam and Judaism do not believe that Jesus was Messiah or Saviour and that the first advent has not taken place. That’s why the entire world will be deceived by Satan who will claim that he is God as in II Thessalonians 2:3-4. Then going here we see:

Revelation 13:15 “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.”
Revelation 13:16 “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:”
Revelation 13:17 “And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”
image (Strong’s 1504) a likeness, i.e. (literal) statue, profile, or (figurative) representation, resemblance, image; (from Strong’s 1503) to resemble, be like; (from Strong’s 1502 through idea of faintness as a copy) to be weak, i.e. yield, give place.
mark (Strong’s 5480) a scratch or etching, i.e. stamp (as a badge of servitude), or sculptured figure (statue); graven, mark; (from same as Strong’s 5482) (to sharpen to a point akin to Strong’s 1125 through idea of scratching); a stake, i.e. a palisade or fence of stakes for defense or rampart (military mound for circumvallation or surround in a siege); trench; (from Strong’s 1125) to “grave”, especially to write; figurative to describe, write.
