Have you taken your thoughts captive today? Second Cor. 10:5 instructs us to take captive each and every thought that’s against the knowledge of God. It doesn’t matter if they’re from your own mind or the devil plants them there, you can be assured you’ll have plenty of daily thoughts that fly in the face of who and what God represents through His holy Word. In Ezekiel chapter 38 it talks about a thought coming into the mind of the enemies of God’s people to attack them. Can you imagine, a simple thought causing an entire people to take action. How powerful are the thoughts that come into your mind?
Do they tempt you to do things you’ve never considered before? Where do these thoughts come from and why do we so often accept them? We, indeed, need to take captive every thought not of God. It says in Eph. 4:22 we are to put away our former way of life, the old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of our minds, clothing ourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness through Christ Jesus. Does this include your thought life too? First Peter 1:13 tells you to prepare your mind for action by discipline yourself and setting all your hope on Jesus.
The Lord also says to be like an obedient child, not being conformed to the desires (or thoughts) that you formerly had in ignorance but instead, as Christ who called you is holy, be holy yourself in all your conduct. I encourage you to do to the devil what Jesus did in Mark 8:33 when He said “Get behind me, Satan! Are you rebuking those thoughts you know are not of God? This scripture goes on to point out that you need to be setting your mind on divine things instead of carnal human things. And there’s nothing more divine than focusing on the cause of Christ.
