I finished reading an article in which reported the Anti-Bible rhetoric by anti-bulling activist Dan Savage. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2136502/Dan-Savage-blasts-Christian-teens-walked-lecture-criticised-bullsh-t-Bible.html) While Mr. Savage is outspoken about bulling, a position I fully support, he is biblically ignorant. We cannot ignore the laws and commands of out creator; this would be as fool hardy as walking in front of a bus. I would propose to Mr. Savage, do you really think what you ignore or choose to pay attention to in the Bible really matters to God? He has told us throughout the Bible what our judgment if we refuse to believe, and follow his precepts. My feeling is that Mr. Savage and many like him have had their minds clouded, and the bible, to them, is just another piece of literature.
Letís take a minute to look at some facts; the Bible is the oldest book in the world, over 4000 years old. It appears in each and every country and in all major languages. Its meaning and application are the same today as it was in the beginning. It is the most widely read and published throughout the world. But here is where it gets interesting; science has proven many of the facts stated in the Bible. Job 36: 27-31 Speaks of how rain is created, in a very clear explanation: 27"He draws up the drops of water, which distill as rain to the streams 28 the clouds pour down their moisture and abundant showers fall on mankind. 29Who can understand how he spreads out the clouds, how he thunders from his pavilion? 30 See how he scatters his lightning about him, bathing the depths of the sea. 31This is the way he governs the nations and provides food in abundance. Job was written around 2000 to 1000 BC ways before any technology, how could he have known? Lucky Guess? Isaiah wrote this about the shape of the earth in around 700 BC, 22He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. That is found in Isaiah 40: 22. How did the latter day prophets know what took science to the 20th Century to discover and prove using technology, not even considered during these menís lives? The answer has to be obvious.
So Mr. Savage before you start slamming the Bible and telling others to ignore it, maybe you should take the time to read it and study it. I have no dislike for you or any who choose your lifestyle, but it seems God does, and you better think before you start to discount him as irrelevant. If you look at prophecy you will notice it has been right 100% of the time, and again science has proved that out. So now you as a journalist how would you interpret this passage of Scripture; 18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.( Romans 1: 18-20)
From the beginning God has made himself know through creation and all the wonders of this earth. We have to be thankful to him for our lives and what he has done for us. You see he could and will destroy this world someday, (Matthew 24: 6-14) you will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains. 9"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
How much more could you do Mr. Savage if you did it for God? Are your worldly desires of the flesh more important than eternal life and your eternal reward? Do you honestly believe God is irrelevant? As stated before it really doesnít matter what you want to believe, or for that matter what you want to do, I will not judge you and neither should the world, but God will judge you, and by his standards, not yours. Donít you think you should look at the standards he will judge us by? They are in the Bible; you quoted one or two on homosexuality. You have free will, but the choices you make have a price, are you willing to pay that price with your salvation?
You do good things, but you could do better through a life lived for Jesus, think about it. All Christians need to speak out when misinformation is being taught to our children. Dan Savage has a great message on bulling; it could be even better taught on a Christian level. We all must remember that we can do nothing without Jesus Christ our Lord. He is our master, we have a choice, serve as a slave to sin or serve Jesus, you see no matter how we may think we are going to be slaves to something, I would rather choose a master who cares and will guide me.
