Sunday 4/29/12 Pastor Michael sermon Preparing for Payday=My final job review I Cor 3:10-14

The thing that helps some of us get thru the work week is that there is a payday. Some of us hate our jobs but we still come to work because there is a payday. We all receive a annual performance appraisal which shows how close we came to our wanted goals. This appraisal sometimes decides if we keep our jobs. Some people get nervous at appraisal time but the time to get nervous is during the time we are doing the job.
God has a performance appraisal time for us too. We are all going to give an accounting of what we have done in this life. There is a judgment after we die or get caught up in the rapture. We need to do work down here on the earth like we are serving the Lord with our whole heart and mind. Everything we do is counting for something whether it be for our good or for our bad. We must be willing to do…….
1) Service with the Right Purpose vs. 10
We must serve God with the right purpose and work for God because He has graced us and made a difference in our life! Some of us have been thru so much mess and God has been good to us! God looked beyond all our faults and saw our needs. We need to serve God because we want to. Because God has been good to us. How can we say we have all this God and not do anything for God? Faith without works is dead.! James 2:17-20. When you really have a relationship with God, serving Him is a privilege.
2) We need to have the Right Practice=Motive for serving God I Cor 3:13-14
We must be doing the right thing for the right reasons. Serving the Lord for the right reason. We have to stand before God and give an accounting for our service to God.
vs. 15 > gold, silver, precious stones = good works……don’t burn up!
>wood, straw, stubble = bad works……burn up!
When someone’s works burn up they barely make it into Heaven. Not everybody in Heaven will be in a mansion. There are different levels in Heaven from the penthouse to the basement. Our works determine which place we get in Heaven. This is not about serving a church but serving God!
3) We must have the Right Pursuit.
The pursuit is the reward. We have to ultimately get paid. We put our time in and payday is coming after a while.
