When I was a little girl I had a recurring dream of running down a hallway that had no end. It seemed the harder I ran the longer it got and I would always wake up realizing my unconquerable quest. I was defeated again.
As twilight would begin to dim the following day the thought of knowing I was going back to this passageway when I fell asleep began to elevate my fear. I knew I was not going to conquer this daunting corridor and my apprehension of its intangibility left me faint-hearted.
Stalked by demons
This dream became a part of me as each night I closed my eyes and dozed off into the realm of my subconscious panic ensued. Other manifestations now surfaced in this state of unconsciousness that left me paralyzed with extreme fright.
Being chased by demons and witches down an unending corridor with walls now closing in on me, hopelessness gripped me. I felt the very breath of live being sucked from the center of my being leaving a hole of emptiness in its place. I would wake tormented in the middle of the night sweating and sobbing, screaming to these demons to leave me alone.
These dreams began to get worse with increasing horrors of ugly and foul smelling creatures chasing me. I always looked back to see if they were gaining on me for the pathway in front of me only grew further and further away.
Why Lord?
I couldn’t understand why the Lord was allowing these terrorizing creatures to continue their barrage of attacks on me. I cried out night after night, “Lord stop them, make them go away, command them to leave me alone.”
During this time in my life I believed in God but I was not saved. I had not called upon Christ and received His precious blood bought gift of salvation. He was not my Father and I was not His child and therefore protection was not a promised guarantee for my life. The forces of darkness had freedom to assail me.
The cocoon
One night as I dreamed, these demonic beings were swirling around me. They had become very hostile, viciously taunting me and biting at my flesh pulling my hair and wielding wicked seething and hissing sounds as they spit in my face.
Their foul stench covered my body with a sticky substance that quickly hardened encasing me in a cocoon like structure. I struggled to get out but the more I wrestled the less strength and breath I had to fight. I began to fade away.
Only by His blood
Suddenly, I heard a voice say, “My child, it is I Jesus Christ fear not this legion that assaults you for I am here. Call upon my name and you shall be delivered from this evil tempest. You can’t do this on your own. You need my strength and power to fight this battle. Call upon me and you will be saved.”
Wow! I immediately called out to Jesus and did just what He told me to do. “Lord, save me, I cried!” At that very instant it was all over. Gone were the monsters of the night that encroached me.
They could no longer trespass on property that belonged to Jesus in whose blood I was now protected and covered at the instant I called upon His name to save me. I sat up in bed no more panic, no more fear, and no more hopelessness. No more looking back to see if these terrible beings were chasing me. I was set free.
‘Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:36 (NKJV)
