FADE IN:

INT. NEW YORK CITY - RESTAURANT

The restaurant is slightly crowded on a Friday night. TERRENCE KINGSLEY walks by looking from table to table at couples in romantic conversation.

He takes a seat at the bar.

TERRENCE
Coke, please.

The bartender, TONY, eyes Terrence, snatches a glass, and fills it with Coke.

Terrence grabs the glass as he notices the bartender giving him a sad look.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
Iíve already had a long day, Tony.

TONY
You know what you should do?

Terrenceís eyes widen. Tony ignores him.

TERRENCE
Tony --

TONY
-- For starters, you should order something other than a Coke from time to time --

TERRENCE
-- You said this --

Tony points at him.

TONY
-- Two months ago for the first time and youíre still not listening to me, my friend.

TERRENCE
Tony, this is who I am. Period.

TONY
So go find one of those church-going women.

Terrence holds his glass up and close to his mouth.

TERRENCE
Can I drink this, please?

TONY
Fine. Iím just trying to help you out here.

Tony walks off as another customer at the bar lifts his hand for another drink.

Terrence slips his Coca-Cola as he hears the voice as NICOLE THOMPSON behind him.

NICOLE
Terrence? Is that you?!

TERRENCE
Hey, Nicole --

NICOLE
-- Oh my gosh! Nice to see you!

TERRENCE
Itís great to see you, Nicole.

There is an awkward silence for a moment as they look into each otherís eyes.

Terrence breaks the silence.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
Iím okay...

NICOLE
Iím glad, Iím glad. I just, didnít expect to see you here, at a bar.

Terrence lowers his head a bit and Nicole touches his shoulder.

NICOLE (CONTíD)
Iím happy to see you.

They both sit casually at the bar.

TERRENCE
How are you?

NICOLE
Great! Here with my girlfriends over there. I thought it was you sitting here, I had to check.

TERRENCE
I know. Tony already gave me the run down.

NICOLE
Iím not going to! I am a bit curious though.

Terrence sits in silence wanting to avoid the question.

Nicole gets up from her chair, taking a look back at her friends staring at her from their table.

NICOLE (CONTíD)
You take care of yourself, alright?

As Nicole begins to walk away, Terrence rises and takes her by the hand.

Nicole begins to pull away.

TERRENCE
Nicole --

NICOLE
-- Please, donít.

Terrence lets go of her hand.

Nicole holds the tears back in her eyes. She turns away for a split second then turns back giving Terrence a brief, light kiss on the cheek.

Terrence breathes in the scent of her perfume, then watches her as she walks back to her table towards the end of the room.

He turns around, puts money on the bar. He and Tony exchange nods and Terrence walks out of the restaurant.

INT. CAR - NIGHT

Terrence drives his black Mercedes CLS towards a penthouse complex. He sits at the red light, looking at couples going down the street. He fights the urge to let tears form in his eyes.

INT. PENTHOUSE COMPLEX

He pulls into the underground garage to see the ATTENDANT at the gate smiling at him.

ATTENDANT
Hot date tonight, Mr. Kingsley?

Terrance gives him a stern look. The Attendant looks away and lifts the gate up.

INT. PENTHOUSE COMPLEX - HALLWAY

Terrence steps out of the elevator looking through his keys. He looks up to see BRAD MATTHEWS standing at his door. Terrance does a 180 back to the elevator.

BRAD MATTHEWS
Terrence, come on man --

Terrence stops in the middle of the hallway, but doesnít turn around.

TERRENCE
-- Itís Friday night!

BRAD MATTHEWS
You know this account needs to be --

Terrence turns around walking towards him.

TERRENCE
-- Itís Friday night!

Brad holds his suitcase up in one hand.

BRAD MATTHEWS
I donít wanna walk in there Monday morning without...

Brad pauses to look at Terrenceís eyes.

BRAD MATTHEWS (CONTíD)
Whatís the matter?

Terrence is silent.

BRAD MATTHEWS (CONTíD)
You saw her?

Terrence unlocks and opens his door.

BRAD MATTHEWS (CONTíD)
Oh, great.

They walk into the apartment.

INT. PENTHOUSE APT.

Terrence throws his jacket over the couch in the living room.

TERRENCE
You want something to drink?

BRAD MATTHEWS
Did you talk to her?

Terrence is in the kitchen looking through the refrigerator.

TERRENCE
Iím not working tonight.

BRAD MATTHEWS
What did she say?

Terrence pulls out some items to make a sandwich.
Brad sits on the single couch in the living room.

BRAD MATTHEWS (CONTíD)
What did you tell her?

TERRENCE
I have the perfect tagline, though.

Brad puts his arms up.

BRAD MATTHEWS
Terrence.

TERRENCE
What?!

Brad sits back, not saying a word.

Terrence slams the jar of mayonnaise down on the counter.

LIVING ROOM

He crashes on the couch, loosening his tie.

TERRENCE
She, uh, was at the restaurant...

Brad sat up, still resigned not to say a word.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
We talked at the bar. I wanted to tell her, I almost told her.

Brad shook his head slightly.

BRAD MATTHEWS
Terrence, I donít know what else I can tell you.

TERRENCE
Iím not pouting anymore --

BRAD MATTHEWS
-- She left the company because you --

TERRENCE
I was trying to help her!

BRAD MATTHEWS
Sheís not like you, Terrence! Youíre two different people!

Terrence sits up.

TERRENCE
Donít you dare put her down.

Brad pauses to rethink his position.

BRAD MATTHEWS
Iím saying, again, she does not want anything to do with God. It wonít work.

Silence hangs in the air for a while.

TERRENCE
(whispers)
I know.

Brad gets up, puts his hand on Terrenceís shoulder.

BRAD MATTHEWS
Iím sorry. You have to move on, man.
Terrence looks through some of his papers on the coffee table.

BRAD MATTHEWS (CONTíD)
So? Youíre ready to rock?!

Terrence pauses, then slams the papers down.

TERRENCE
Nope! Iím not working tonight.

Terrence turns on the TV, grazing over CNNís coverage.

Brad gives him a blank stare.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
See you Monday morning.

BRAD MATTHEWS
Terrence.

Terrence stands up and begins pushing Brad towards the door. Brad protests.

BRAD MATTHEWS (CONTíD)
At least give me the taglines, concept, something!

Terrence opens the door.

TERRENCE
Iíll see you in church, Sunday.

Brad is holding his hands up just outside the door.

BRAD MATTHEWS
What about after --

TERRENCE
-- No!
Terrence closes the door behind Brad.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
Good night!

Terrence grabs items off the kitchen counter and takes a seat as he reads headlines on CNN.

The situations around the world seem dire. Several economies are struggling. There are military assaults taking place in the Middle East. The U.S. Military is on high alert for an potential attack, possibly on U.S. soil.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
(whispers)
Oh no...

Thereís a knock at the door. Terrence leaps up.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
Brad. I told you weíre not --!

Terrence opens the door to see Nicole standing there with a shy smile. Terrence freezes.

NICOLE
I guess Brad is being as charming as ever.

TERRENCE
Ni...

Terrence stares at her for a few moments.

NICOLE
May I come in?

TERRENCE
Yeah! Iím sorry I...

NICOLE
You didnít expect to see me here.

Terrence takes her coat.

TERRENCE
Have a seat. You want something --

NICOLE
Iíll have a Coke, please.

Terrence pauses.

NICOLE (CONTíD)
No, really.

TERRENCE
Alright.

Nicole sits on the couch and lulls over the CNN headlines.

NICOLE
Oh, gosh. I was watching CNN, too. Itís depressing.

Terrence gives her a glass of iced Coke and sits next to her.

TERRENCE
Thereís nothing you can do.

NICOLE
You mean ďyou.Ē

There is an awkward silence for several moments, then they both began to speak at the same time. Terrence gestures for her to go first.

NICOLE (CONTíD)
I just wanted to tell you that...

Terrence notices that she seems to change her mind mid-sentence as she takes sips of her Coke.

TERRENCE
Iím sorry. For everything, Nicole. I shouldíve --

NICOLE
-- No! You always apologize for...

Nicole calms down, then sees a card she gave him over the fireplace.

NICOLE (CONTíD)
You kept it.

TERRENCE
I did.

To break another awkward moment of silence.

NICOLE
Howís work?
Terrence gets up in disgust. Nicole laughs.

TERRENCE
Iím not talking about work!

NICOLE
Terrence --!

TERRENCE
No!

Nicole spots a folder full of paper on the single couch.

NICOLE
Did Brad leave this?

TERRENCE
Leave what?

Nicole gestures towards the single couch.

NICOLE
He left his --

TERRENCE
-- I told him Iím...

Terrence flips through the folder, sighing as he pausing over an advertisement concept.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
This makes no sense. Thatís not a tagline, itís...

He drops the folder on the couch and stands there for a moment.

NICOLE
Can I help?

Terrence gives her a friendly, suspicious look.

NICOLE (CONTíD)
Oh, come on! You know Iím good with taglines.

Terrence stares at her.

NICOLE (CONTíD)
Please?

Terrence never could resist that look, but Nicole never chose to abuse it.

TERRENCE
(sigh)
Alright.

Nicole claps. Her bubbly approach to her job always made his work easier.

They work all night on ideas, various concepts and taglines, laughing, arguing, and making up in a matter of moments. The signs of sunrise come through the large windows.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
You still take the cabs?

NICOLE
Yes, and donít start with the car lecture.

Terrence puts his hands up walking away.

EXT. NYC PENTHOUSE - DAY

Terrence and Nicole walk along the sidewalk, neither wanting to leave the other. They stop on the sidewalk as the city begins to come to life.

TERRENCE
I appreciate you coming over.

Nicoleís head is bowed.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
Iíll get you a cab.

He notices that her eyes are watery.

TERRENCE (CONTíD)
Whatís -- ?

NICOLE
-- Terrence, I, I miss you.

Terrence doesnít believe what heís hearing.

TERRENCE
Well, I miss seeing you, too.

NICOLE
No, I mean...

Tears fall from her eyes, she covers her mouth.

NICOLE (CONTíD)
I think I love you.

Terrence feels his heart drop. As soon as she begins to extend her arms toward him, he embraces her. A tear falls from his eye, she is beaming with joy. The moment seems to last forever.

But suddenly, Terrence disappears.

Nicole looks at her hands, eyes darting around only to see air. Heís gone. She screams. Then, she notices the loud cries across the city itself. The Christians, the children, have been raptured.

FADE OUT.
