You are invited to the Great Wedding Feast of all eternity. Though the weddings we witness today will someday end in the physical death of its partners, the Great Wedding Feast is a never-ending bond of love with God our Father. Even death will not show its face in this marriage.
The clothing required to enter this feast is called “Righteousness.” Yet none of us is righteous: our righteousness is as filthy rags in comparison to the glowing flawlessness of our Perfect God. We cannot attend the Great Wedding Feast if we are wearing our own filthy rags. So why would all men receive an invitation to a feast they can never attend?
Because God has offered to clothe us in His righteousness.
He has seen that our anger, rebellion, ignorance and hatred have stained us. He has known that there is nothing in our power that we can do to attain the garments of spiritual perfection required to attend His feast. And He has offered the life of His Son to pay the price it costs for us to wear clothing of righteousness to the eternal feast.
We can accept or reject His invitation. To reject is to spend eternity in isolation from Perfect Love (this is death); to accept is to spend eternity in the presence of Perfect Love (this is Life!). And in accepting, we receive the capacity through God’s Holy Spirit to grow in Perfect Love until the day when our Lord comes to take us home—where we will be perfected in His love.
This invitation is of far greater worth than our very lives. It is our prayer that if you have not yet accepted the great invitation, you will fall on your knees before our Mighty God and humbly accept it. And for those who have accepted, it is our prayer that you will continue to grow in the knowledge and life of love until that final day.
