Are You A Second Mile Friend?
What kind of friend would you want others to say you are? Do you go the path with a friend only when the path is smooth and the air is crisp and clear? Or do you stay on the path with your friend when it gets steep, rough and a storm blows in?
Do you like the friend who stays close by when it cost something to be your friend?
Do you like the friend who does not mind when they have to carry the burdens for you?
Do you like the one mile friend or the friend that is willing to go the second mile?
To be a second mile friend means to identify oneself with another, to be interested in their problems, to rejoice in their success, to stand by them when others went only the one mile.
Prov 17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
There comes a time in all our lives when a friend is needed. But when tragedy or discouragement strikes it is then we need the second mile friend.
If I am going to be a second mile friend I will not calculate how much a friendship is going to benefit me. I will know my friends weaknesses but love them just the same. I will be willing to forgive them and hold no grudge against them. They will feel at ease in my presence because they know I will never misunderstand their intentions.
Christ is this kind of friend. He is our constant companion. He gave His life for us and comes to our aid when we are wounded. He wants to give us heaven’s richest blessings. He will never leave us or forsake us.
Let us ask ourselves, can we be a second mile friend?
