Why is it when we want to think about good thoughts, righteous ways, and have a positive outlook on lifeóevil is there trying to keep us away from Meditating on godly things? We want to please God by having a CLEAN and CLEAR CONSCIENCE but our thoughts run away from us and flashís back to the past with the most dirtiest thoughts that cannot be shared with anybody. Have you ever experienced this being a Christian-- is this frame of mind is whatís holding you back from serving God?
Do you feel guilty about what goes thru your mind thatís so embarrassing that you would not dare tell anybody or your Pastor because he may not understand you or may classify you as some pervert or sick-o that needs psych-meds? Well before you visit the psych, before you go ahead and do what is going thru your mind and wind-up in the morning paper let me share what the Word of God has to say about having a CLEAR and CLEAN CONSCIENCE.
The Human Being
In order for us to understand our thought life we need to lay down some Biblical facts about the Human Being. God has led me to teach on the Conscience several weeks ago and Iím still teaching on it, my mind is being filled with concepts that I never heard preached but I read in scripture. Today I turned on the Christian channel and 4 Ministers taught about the Mind. So God desires the Body of Christ to clearly understand this topic. The Apostle Paul said the Conscience is a faculty thatís built into our Human spirit (See Romans 2:14-15).
We are a 3-part being;
1. We have a Human spirit
2. We have a Soul
3. We have a Human Physical Body
We have Departments, Areas, and Faculties in each part;
1. The Human spirit has a CONSCIENCE
2. The Soul has a Mind and Emotions
3. The Body has the Hearing, Seeing, Smelling, Tasting and Touching capabilities.
The Human Being has a MIND in each Part;
1. The MIND of the Human spirit--is the CONSCIENCE
2. The MIND of the Soul--is the Mental and Emotional capacities
3. The Mind of the Body-is the Brain
When the Apostle Paul wrote his letter to the Christians at the city of Thessalonica he concluded his letter with a unique prayer about the entire Human Being. I love Paul because heís a very thorough and extremely detailed as a Bible Teacher. He practically walks us thru everything he caught a revelation of in Scripture. Paul prayed;
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23). We can personify this prayer and pray it for ourselves individually and on behalf of our church members and the entire Body of Christ around the world.
To personify it; We would prayóFather of Peace in the mighty name of Jesus, I ask that you sanctify me completely; Cleanse my spirit, soul, and body from all the perversion, lusts, wickedness that the flesh and the devil will try to entangle me with this day. And keep me holy, righteous, and blameless until you return for me Lord Jesus, Amen.
A Cleansed CONSCIENCE
We have to pray constantly this prayer in 1 Thessalonians 5:23. But we also have to have Biblical knowledge of what God already did through Jesus Christ when He shed His Blood for us at the Cross. Paul wrote His letter to the Hebrews saying;
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, CLEANSE your CONSCIENCE from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:14)
Our CONSCIENCEóthe mind of the Human spirit has been cleansed by the Blood of Jesus. When Paul said this he was walking thru a teaching of blood sacrifices from the animals that had to be offered up by the Israelites for their sins in the Old Testament. The only thing is that they still remained Conscious of their sins in their CONSCIENCE.
In other words, their human spirits were still in a state of guilt and or condemnation of their sins. They had to accept the fact that this was Godís program of forgiveness at that time. Yet inside they werenít that confident because they did not feel the power of the Holy Spiritís cleansing which we can experience today. Then Paul made a comparison of the Sacrifice of Jesus and the Blood Jesus shed which has more power than the animal sacrifices that not only forgives us but Cleanse our CONSCIENCE (OUR HUMAN SPIRIT) from the guilt and condemnation. (Read Hebrews chapter 9 and 10)
This Biblical fact has to be understood in order for us not to feel inferior and inadequate when we come to God in Prayer. This is when Paul went into this area of teaching in Hebrews Chapter 10;
19. Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
When we come to God-- itís thru the confidence (Boldness) based on the blood of Jesus not because we are goody-two-shoe Christians.
20. By a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
21. And having a High Priest over the house of God,
To understand these verses you need to be a Jew who knows the Laws of sacrifices and their meaning from the Old Testament where the High Priest assigned to the Temple was the only one who was able to enter the inner-most area of the Temple to offer the blood of the animal that was killed and sprinkle it on the altar in the Holy of Holies.
22. Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil CONSCIENCE and our bodies washed with pure water.
This is where we have to apply our faith although we may not feel anything. To explain this let me share my testimony quickly. I read tracts and booklets for 3 months in 1991, before I was convicted enough to make a decision to repent and accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior on December 28, 1991. I felt guilty, unworthy like a real worm, thoughts of my past kept me thinking how can I be forgiven but I cried with tears for all the evil I had committed and confessed my sins to the Lord as I made the sinners prayer. I literally cried myself to sleep after I made the sinners prayer.
The next day I woke up a new man I did not feel like a sinner I woke up with a joy and said Iím up Glory Hallelujah thank you Lord, and I caught myself. Did I just say that? Then I just went on with my day I picked up the Bible and said Okay Lord Iím going to read the Bible.
I did not know it, but I was operating in-line with what Paul was talking about without knowing the scriptural reference found here in Hebrews Chapter 10.
1. I was inspired to yell out Glory Hallelujah
2. I was full with Joy
3. I did not think about the tears or sins that filled my mind the day before
4. I went about my day rejoicing in God because my heart was CLEANSED my CONSCIENCE was CLEAN.
Paul said we must experience this level of confidence when we draw near to God with a true heart in full assurance that we are forgiven, cleansed, accepted by Him because of what Jesus did, knowing that the Blood of Jesus is what sprinkled our evil CONSCIENCE CLEAN.
Paul continued to write, let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:22-23).
To close this article out, I would like to say that we must continue to believe, confess what the word of God says about this concept of a CLEAN CONSCIENCE that was made available to us thru the Blood of Jesus that gave access to the Throne of God in Heaven; because we have been washed from our sins and we can thank God for it and continuously pray daily to be sanctified entirely.
So with that said--enjoy the experience of having your CONSCIENCE CLEANED AND CLEAR from the evil that once dominated your mind because of your past. Begin to live in the new and living way that God provided thru Jesusí ultimate sacrifice His Blood that was shed for us. Let us hold fast to that confession and say it loud and clear in our prayers without a doubt because Jesus is faithful to fulfill His promises in our lives. Amen
