I always hear from my mom and dad these lines "If I have lots of money, I wouldn't just stand here and watch you work; If I were a millionaire I'd give you this and that". Whenever I am caught up in this kind of situation, I'd tell them, "Okay, great! What if not?" Then they'd tell me, "just be thankful for the things that we can give you". When I had not found contentment in life, I also used to ask myself, what if they were not my parents? What if I'm adopted and my real parents are billionaires?!
I admit, I was wrong, and these are not the only "if" world I lived in. I used to draw my dream house and I'd imagine living there; I dreamt of studying at Harvard, graduating with highest honors and delivering my speech (I was even about to write one). Daydreaming, hah! One way of getting out of the real stressful world. The more creative you are, the more you can define real like but non-existing world. It would feel good to live in this own "if" world of ours, but when you live in it for too long, you may have bigger problems in the real world when you get back.
Daydreaming is the most accessible and obvious "if" world for all of us, well, because its free, and it works using the most powerful graphic chip in the world, "the imagination". However, there is another "if" world aided by technology-- computer games.
I worked in the BPO industry for more than 3 years, and in a world where voice was my investment, my voice was limited when speaking to customers. As a way to compensate in this limitation, whenever I get home, I'd grab my PSP and play GTA right away, there I kill people, I feel like I have the authority to kill everyone I want to kill. Moreover, you can use cheats, so that cops wouldn't go after you when you kill someone. I also play SIMS, where you can use cheats to earn money, buy house, furnitures and food. Nevertheless, these are virtual world, and trying to compensate in real life using these media cannot work forever.
Proverbs 12:11 "He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment"(12:11).
