At The Table
At The Table
The clock on the wall
reveals the dinner hour
Mom gives a call
but who can hear
when no one is near-
Rooms with screens
among other things
take part in
"the great divide"
while empty chairs
remain side by side
without a family
a prayer of thanks
or a meal -
Busyness and technology
have begun to steal
the most tender part
of the family heart.
At the table
we were once able
to be together
for a little while
of each day
with a meal and a pray.
How sad, that family time
At the table
has drifted away.

Congratulations on having your poem be a part of the Faithwriters Jewel Chest! This was a simple poem that carried a powerful message -- the importance of spending time as a family, especially around the dinner table. I'm sure that every busy person with a family can relate to these words. It sure touched my heart and made me think about how important my own family was to me and that nothing can replace the time spent with them. Thanks for sharing your poem!
The truth in this powerful peace will touch many hearts. Family is a gift from God, and, so we all ache when things change...but one thing never changes - God's love and His hand that supports us through all of life's challenges. Congrats on being chosen for the Faithwriters Jewel Chest. Loved this...thank you. God Bless~

I enjoyed your poem. This is struggle that really resonates with me as my kids grow and become more involved in extra-curricular activities. I love this part of your poem: "the great divide" while empty chairs remain side by side You could have ended right there. I know that you had more to say, but for me that sense of emptiness and loneliness in those lines was the strongest feeling you evoked, and what came after was not nearly as strong.
Just more evidence that our world is failing and how much more we need to "seek first His Kingdom" that our souls may be fully nourished at His Table. I know He patiently awaits our presence there, where a glorious feast has been prepared to feed us with His everlasting love and life...
So true - and sad. Thank you for sharing this.
